IMO the on-line trailer has great 'oomph factor' for the Sci-Fi afficionado. Let's face it, it looks superbly amazingly fantastic so if you're of a mind to do people a favour (from what I see, read and hear) you could try whatever sell you have and back it up with that eye candy. I know that I was definitely going to see Serenity from the moment I saw the first trailer; it works in a way that the TV ads don't quite carry. The effects hook is more in evidence, I guess because much of the dialogue wasn’t available initially. Perhaps the TV ad. is more wordy because of a possibly mistaken belief that the target audience would already have seen samples of the effects and would like to hear some more Mal one-liners.

There are two trailers now btw, I think the 13 rated one is the tastier of the two but they both kick the (UK) TV version into touch as regards visual impact and indeed some idea of the plot, exactly how much idea I’ll have to wait a while to see : ): )

For reasons which are not altogether clear to me I’m reminded of George Bernard Shaw’s invitation to Winston Churchill to attend the opening night of one of his plays, he sent two tickets with the suggestion that WSC “Bring a friend, if you have one.”

WSC replied by returning the tickets with the regret that he was otherwise engaged on the first night but would be pleased to attend on the second night “…if there is one.”
