Or how about Spike rigged a system so that when someone opened a door (say Xander), a lever was pulled that released a ball which rolled down and hit a catch, openening a cage door and releasing a rat (maybe Amy?) which bit a piece of cheese which released a spring ... which resulted in a human (say Xander) being decapitated.
Would Spike's chip go off and if so when: a) when he rigged the Rube Goldburg device b) when the contraption was set in motion (by say Xander) or c) when the human (say Xander) was decapitated?
I think the only answer is to actually test said chip in real world situations. We could have a web contest where you could win a Buffy season dvd set for the most esoteric tests for the chip. I do see some ethical questions with such a program but hey - we want, no NEED, to know the answers to these important queries.
