Aidan sighed. They had defended his sister, and had attempted to do the same for his parents. He owed them, and he wouldn't leave debts unpaid. "All right, let us find an inn. I will pick up the bill. First, however, There is the matter of the carriage to deal with." He gave the charred remains closer examination. There was a lead box that had been hidden under a seat. He knew its contents, and decided it was better not to check on them. The last thing he needed was for people to notice THAT. Nothing else of value was left, although there was still the sackful of valuables that had been stolen and returned. He approached the horses... or what remained of them. One was still alive, if an exposed - yet beating - heart was a sign of life. He took his sister's knife from the ground and put the poor beast out of its misery. He cleaned the blade on the leg of his breeches and tucked it into his belt. He returned to Angharad's side. It occurred to him that he could not carry the sack, the box, and the girl all together. And he couldn't afford to loose any of them. He reasoned he would have to carry the box, because he would not dream of entrusting it to anyone else. He could probably manage two of the three, so long as one of the two was the sack. That left An. What to do, what to do?
