WILLPOWER PART 4: STONE COLD

It is still day. The light shines bright in the Summers' backyard. There is a circle of sand.
In the middle of the circle lays a big chunk of ice. Dawn sits on the floor beside the circle,
doing a spell. Willow closely watches Dawn. After a long chant, the piece of ice begins to
burn with a strange glow. After Dawn continues chanting, the strange fire becomes more intense.
Suddenly, the piece of ice explodes and pieces of fire and ice blow in every direction.
Dawn and Willow are not hit however.
DAWN
Whoa!
WILLOW *smiles*
You did good, Dawnie.
DAWN
It exploded. How's that a good thing?
WILLOW
Are you hurt?
DAWN
No
WILLOW
Is anyone else hurt?
DAWN
No
WILLOW
Then it can't be that bad. Beside, you definitely did better than me for your first time
DAWN
What do you mean?
WILLOW
Let's just say that I learnt not to do this spell on the bedspread.
DAWN
You didn't.... you mean....you were dumb enough to make fire on the bedspread?
WILLOW *to herself*
I never should have mentioned that!
Dawn starts laughing

Kennedy comes home from work. She got home early this day as the sun is still up.
She quickly goes home and goes up to take a shower and change into something
more casual-dressy. After awhile, Kennedy comes downstairs.
DAWN *to Willow*
No
WILLOW
Come on Dawn, I wanna know
DAWN
Not going to happen
KENNEDY
What are you talking about
WILLOW
Dawn's new boyfriend.
DAWN
She wants me to bring him here.
Kennedy glances over at Willow.
KENNEDY
I think you should bring him Dawn. I'm curious
DAWN
No, I'm not gonna put him into danger
WILLOW
What danger?
DAWN
Uh, the kind we're always in. Just forget about it.
Kennedy quickly realizes that they are not going to change Dawn's mind. She looks at Willow who seems
to agree with Kennedy.
KENNEDY
Okay, we forget about it. Anyone wanna come patrolling.
WILLOW
No, sorry. Xander's getting released from the hospital tonight.
I want to be here when he gets here.
DAWN
He's gonna stay here?
WILLOW
Yeah. Andrew's gonna be in for observation a little longer, so it's kinda
empty at his house.
DAWN
Andrew okay?
WILLOW *smiles*
Yeah, Xander says Andrew just makes such a big fuss about every ache, that the doctors
think something is going on.
KENNEDY
So, you coming Dawn?
DAWN
Sure, I could use some action
KENNEDY
Okay, let's slay some vamps then
Dawn takes a crossbow and some bolts from the weapons chest and Kennedy packs an axe. Together they walk to the door.
WILLOW
Uh, guys....
KENNEDY
Yeah?
WILLOW
There's this thing about vampires that Buffy apparently forgot to teach you
KENNEDY *interested*
Oh.. and what's that?
WILLOW *smiles*
They generally don't get up until the sun sets
Dawn and Kennedy look at each other.
DAWN *embarassed*
Then tonight it is
KENNEDY *embarassed*

It's finally night as Dawn and Kennedy walk over one of Sunnydales cemetaries. They are very much
on their guard as they keep looking in all directions, expection get get jumped by and angry crowd
of vampires any minute. After a short time of tension, Kennedy suddenly starts talking.
KENNEDY
...so why won't you bring that boyfriend of yours?
DAWN
I've been telling you a million times, it's too dangerous.
KENNEDY
It's dangerous in the entire town. You know, hellmouth and all...
DAWN
Yeah, but the evil things generally revolve around my house and not around
the hellmouth.
KENNEDY
But Dawn, it's just that...
DAWN
Uh Kennedy....
KENNEDY
No come on Dawn, I just mean to say that...
DAWN
Kennedy!
KENNEDY
What?
Dawn points behind Kennedy and a big demon stands behind her. Kennedy quickly leaps a couple of feet away.
They look at the demon. It is huge, about 8 feet tall. The demon looks cleaner than most demons, his skin
is the human color and he is completely bald. What makes him different than a human is the fact that he has
two small horns on his face and the fact that he has three eyes.
KENNEDY
Hey, you startled me...
Kennedy hits the demon in the face a couple of times.
KENNEDY
And you made me forget what I was saying.
Kennedy hits the demon again, but the second hit is blocked by the demon. The demon easily picks up Kennedy and
throws her against a tombstone.
Dawn has already loaded her crossbow and shoots the creature right through the chest.
DAWN *triumphant*
Got the heart!
The creature pulls the arrow out and hits Dawn in the face. Dawn falls down.
DAWN *hurt*
Or... not
Kennedy is standing on her feet again, a bit shaky. She attacks the demon, but it slashed his fingernails across
his chest. The scratchmarks suggest that the demon has only three fingers.
KENNEDY
Ow, that hurt you.....
Dawn looks in amazement as Kennedy's body turns to stone.
Dawn's look of amazement quickly turns to fear as the demon turns his attention to her.
Dawn decides to run for her life. After a few seconds she looks behind her, but the demon is not following her.

Dawn arrives at her house. She opens the front door, walks in, and closes it behind her.
DAWN
Willow!
Willow comes walking down the stairs.
WILLOW
Xander's not home yet
Dawn looks at Willow with a look that can only be described as painfull.
WILLOW *suspicious*
Where's Kennedy?
DAWN
Well she kinda got..... *soft* turned to stone.
WILLOW
What? Who did that?
DAWN
Demon. He's very strong.
WILLOW
Okay, we're going. Where is Kennedy?
DAWN
I'll take you to her

Willow and Dawn arrive at the scene where Kennedy got turned to stone. Kennedy is still petrified.
Willow chants a few words and points her hands at Kennedy. A stream of power comes out of her fingertips
but it doesn't have the desired effect; Kennedy is still petrified.
DAWN
I'm sorry Willow
WILLOW
It's okay. I understand you had to run.
DAWN
Maybe we should take her home and try turning her back there
WILLOW
Okay....
Willow walks over to Kennedy and picks her up with no apparent trouble.
DAWN
Can I help?
WILLOW
No, I got her.
Willow and Dawn walk away.

Willow and Dawn arrive at home to find Xander sitting on the couch. Xander stands up and walks to them.
XANDER *smiles*
You know, I figured I would get a warmer welcome. Like cake or something and....
Xander notices the petrified Kennedy and the sad looks on Willow and Dawn's face.
XANDER
What happened?
Willow looks at Kennedy
WILLOW
A demon turned her into stone. We have to figure out how to turn her back.
DAWN
And we will!
Dawn walks over to the computer. Willow put the petrified Kennedy on the couch and Xander walks over to
the bookshelf and browses through the books, trying to find something usefull.
Suddenly, the doorbell rings.
DAWN
Who could that be?
XANDER
Maybe the doctors finally figured out that there is nothing wrong with Andrew
and they released him.
WILLOW
Yeah... maybe
Willow walks to the door and opens it. A muscular man stands in the doorway.
MAN
I need your help.
WILLOW
Okay, who are you?
ONTARON
I am Ontaron. I am here following a demon.
Dawn steps towards the door
DAWN
and would this demon be eight feet tall, have three eyes and two horns on his face?
ONTARON
Yes, the creature has the power to turn people into stone with a scrape of
it's fingers. I followed it for some time, but every time I get close, it disappears
again.
WILLOW
So what do you need out help for?
ONTARON
You are well known mrs. Rosenberg. You can help me track down and kill the demon.
WILLOW
Come in....
Ontaron walks in and Willow closes the door behind him.
Ontaron walks to the living room; towards Xander. Xander introduces himself.
XANDER
Xander
DAWN
I'm Dawn
ONTARON
Nice to meet you Xander and Dawn
Willow walks over to them and tells everyone to sit down. Because Kennedy is taking up the whole couch, most
of them end up sitting on the floor.
WILLOW
What kind of demon is it?
ONTARON
It's an ogre
XANDER
Are you kidding? Ogres don't look like that. They.....
Xander suddenly realizes what he is saying and quickly shuts up.
ONTARON
Besides the ability to turn humans into stone with a scrape of his fingernails, he is
also very strong.
DAWN
Yeah, I saw that. He threw Kennedy through the air like she was nothing.
WILLOW *points to Kennedy*
How do we turn her back?
ONTARON
the petrification is mystical. They will all be undone if the demon dies.
WILLOW
So this brings us to the big question. How do we kill it?
ONTARON
Pierce his heart.
DAWN
I already did that. It didn't work.
ONTARON
That's because his heart is here.
Ontaron points at his right shoulder.
DAWN
Oh
ONTARON
But there's more. The demon's skeleton is very specific. If you try to stab it from
behind, it's kinda like jamming through metal.
DAWN
So I guess backstabbing is out.
WILLOW
Fine, we pierce his heart from the front then.
Willow walks upstairs signaling Dawn to follow her.
ONTARON
Where are they going?
XANDER
They are gonna do that locator spell. You know, the one that finds your demon.
After a couple of minutes, Willow and Dawn come down.
WILLOW
We know where it is.
DAWN
It's at a cave in the Restfield Cemetary.
XANDER
Let's go
The gang heads for the weapons chest. Willow grabs a dagger, Xander takes two daggers and Dawn takes a sword.
The entire gang leaves the house, leaving Kennedy on the couch.

Willow, Dawn, Xander and Ontaron enter a dark cave. Willow grabs a small jar from her pocket and throws it
on the floor.
WILLOW
Fiatlux!
Thre entire cave is suddenly well-lit.
The gang proceeds in the cave. Suddenly, the demon leaps from the ceiling as it lands just in front of Willow.
The demon immediately attacks her and scratches her face. Within seconds, Willow is completely petrified too.
DAWN
I hate a deja-vu when it is something bad.
XANDER
I think that goes without saying Dawn.
Ontaron pulls a knife from his coat and attacks the demon, but he blocks the attack and breaks
Ontaron's arm. He then hits him all over before he lifts him in the air and throws him through the cave
Dawn jams the sword towards the demons's shoulder, but the demon anticipated that and within
moments, Dawn is also turned to stone.
Ontaron is on the floor, unable to ge up. The demon slowly walks over to him. Ontaron is visibly
afraid and tries to get up with one arm broken and a beat-up body.
Xander is a few feet away and looks at the exit.
OGRE
Time for you to join your friends.
Suddenly, Xander jams a dagger in the back of the demon's right shoulder.
The ogre turns around, the hit hurt but not a lot. the dagger is stuck in the demon's bones.
Before the demon has a chance to react, Xander jams another dagger through the front of the demon's
shoulder. The demon collapses to the floor.
Xander looks over Willow and Dawn who turn back to flesh and collapse to the floor.
DAWN
Ow! That hurt
WILLOW
Yeah.... there was only one right?
ONTARON *tries to smile*
As far as I know
DAWN
Guys? Can we get out of here?
XANDER
Yeah
The gang leaves the cave. Willow and Dawn are barely able to walk.
ONTARON
You two should lie down for a day or so. You'll ve fine after that.

Back at the Summer's home, Ontaron is saying goodbye.
ONTARON
Thank you all. Because of you, the demon will never terrorize mankind again.
Ontarun turns to Xander looks at him with a smile on his face.
ONTARON
You have proven to be a true hero. You faced the demon where almost anyone would
have ran for the exit.
Ontaron reaches behind for the back of his neck and unlocks a pendant he is wearing.
He takes it off and gives it to Xander
ONTARON
I owe you my life Xander. That is why I give you this. Among my clan, this
pendant is a symbol of courage. It is given only to those who have shown
exceptional courage in the face of danger. I want you to have it.
Xander smiles proudly and accepts the pendant.
XANDER
I don't know what to say
WILLOW
I think no-one deserves it more than you
DAWN
Yeah, without you, we would all be dead
XANDER
I just think that anyone of us would have done the same thing.
ONTARON
You never know what you will do in such a situation before it happens.
Dawn walks over to Xander and helps him to put on the pendant.
ONTARON
If you wear it, anyone of my clan will always treat you with the respect you deserve.
Now I have to go. I am going home to my family.
DAWN
You have a family?
ONTARON
Yes, now that the demon has been killed, I have again.
Ontaron walks to the door and opens it.
ONTARON
And dont'forget, take plenty of rest
Ontaron then walks out of the door. The gang watches him walk away, then they close the door.
Willow, Dawn and Kennedy move up the stairs, visibly tired.
XANDER
You know, I just got released from the hospital. I should be the one who
needs to lie down.
WILLOW/DAWN/XANDER
Goodnight Xander!
XANDER
Goodnight girls
Xander sits on the couch alone. He watches the pendant he wears.
XANDER
A hero... me.... who would have thought?
