WILLPOWER PART 5: LOVE, HONOUR AND DUTY

It is nearing sunset in Sunnydale. In a matter of minutes, it will be dark and the vampires will come out.
Willow stands on top of Kingman's Bluff. The temple that once stood there was gone.
Willow is staring over the streets of Sunnydale.
WILLOW *to herself*
Why am I here?
A voice sounds behind her.
FAITH
Well, maybe you feel guilty
Willow looks at Faith and gets a scared look on her face.
WILLOW
You're The First
FAITH
No I'm not, I'm here to help you
Willow backs away a little. Faith picks up a piece of rock and throws it from the hill.
FAITH
See, It's me. The First cannot take corporeal form. Besides, we kicked it's ass.
WILLOW
Don't take this the wrong way but, aren't you kinda dead?
FAITH
Yeah kinda, but that doesn't stop me from paying this little visit to you
WILLOW
Now don't take this the wrong way either, but.. what do you want?
FAITH
Hmmm, what do I want? Maybe some beers, a little dance music and a cute guy to screw.
WILLOW
Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Why are you here?
FAITH
To tell you something
WILLOW
Ok then, let's have it.
Faith pauses for a second.
FAITH
Your friends are going to kill you.
WILLOW
Ok, now you're making it all up.
FAITH
Andrew, Dawn, Kennedy... even Xander. They will all turn against you.
WILLOW *smiles*
You know, this is pathetic. You guys really couldn't come up with anything better?
Faith waves her right hand and a field of energy forms beside her. Inside the field Willow can see something happen inside.
FAITH
Then see for yourself
The field shows the entire gang in a battle with Willow. The image doesn't show much but it is clear that
she is fighting against Andrew, Dawn, Kennedy and Xander.
WILLOW
Cute trick.
FAITH
It's not a trick. I'm here to advise you
WILLOW
Let me guess, does involves killing and destruction?
FAITH
Fine, make a joke out it. Just remember that if you don't kill them, they will kill you.
WILLOW
So you say I have to kill my friends?
FAITH
Yeah, sorry Will.
WILLOW
I have a better idea.
With that she slashes her right hand through the sky and big scratchmarks appear on Faith's face. This is all not
unlike how Willow tried to stop Xander on Kingman's Bluff. Willow then raises her hands. Faith's body suddenly
becomes weightless. With a wave of her hand Willow send Faith flying into the sky.

The Man is sitting in an empty room. He is meditating and it is completely quiet. Suddenly, scratchmarks appear on his
face, completely identical to the ones Willow inflicted on Faith. He is then thrown back against a wall.
THE MAN *breathing heavily*
Damn!
He puts his hand on his face and then he looks at it. His hand is covered with blood

Bitch!

Willow is lying in her bed; sleeping. Kennedy lies next to her. Willow's eyes suddenly open wide.
Willow looks around her for a moment and then she relaxes and goes back to sleep.

It's the next evening. Dawn and Mitch come out of a cinema together. They walk for a minute without saying anything.
But they look happy and they are holding hands, constantly looking at each other.
MITCH
So, Dawn?
DAWN
Yeah?
MITCH
I was just wondering..... you know..... you met my friends.....when do I meet yours?
DAWN
Well.... I......
MITCH
Cause I would like to know as much about you as I can.
Dawn is visibly touched by this, but Mitch doesn't notice it.
DAWN
You free tomorrow?
MITCH
For you? Always
DAWN
How's about I make you dinner
MITCH
You can cook?
DAWN
No, is that a problem?
MITCH *smiles*
No, it's not
DAWN
And then you can meet all my friends
MITCH
Great
Dawn and Mitch arrive at a car. Mitch opens it and Dawn and Mitch step in. Mitch is driving and the car takes off.

The car arrives at the Summers' residence. Dawn and Mitch look at each other.
DAWN
I had a really good time
MITCH
Me too
Dawn leans over to Mitch and kisses him. Mitch kisses her back.
DAWN
Good night
Dawn steps out of the car. She waves goodbye to Mitch and walks to the front door. When she's inside, Mitch drives away.
Inside, Dawn hangs up her coat and joins the gang, who are watching TV in the living room.
Apocalypse Nowish is playing.
WILLOW
So, how was the date? Had fun?
DAWN *smiling*
Yeah, it was
XANDER
So when are we going to meet this guy that can make you this happy?
KENNEDY *keeps her eyes on the TV*
Don't bother. Willow and I tried.
DAWN
Actually, he's coming over for dinner tomorrow.
WILLOW
Really? That's great Dawnie. We are invited too right?
DAWN
Yeah, I told him I would cook dinner.
Dawn suddenly realizes what she's saying.
DAWN
I told him I would cook dinner! I can't cook! What am I going to do?
Xander and Willow look at each other and smile. They know exactly how Dawn is feeling.

We see The Man, sitting in the same empty room as before. He is sitting on the floor and he has his eyes closed.
His face is still scratched. The Man starts a long chant. The language sounds non-human. When The Man is done,
a portal opens beside him. It shows another world. From what we can see, it consists out of a lot of mountains.
There is no life visible in any way. From inside the portal we hear a voice.
VOICE
Who called on me?
THE MAN
Your faithfull servant Shenk Pathos
VOICE
Did you succeed in your mission?
THE MAN a.k.a. SHENK
Not yet my lord
VOICE *getting angry*
Then how dare you call upon me?
SHENK
The witch is more powerfull than I anticipated.
VOICE *angry*
Kill her! I don't care how you do it, just kill her!
SHENK
I need to know her weaknesses
VOICE
She is her own worst enemy. Her own worst fear. Now, don't contact me again until you have good news.
SHENK
Thank you my lord.
The portal then closes. A smile gets across Shenk's face. You can almost see a plan forming in his brain.

Dawn is busy in the Summers' kitchen. The kitchen is a complete disaster area. Kennedy enters and looks around.
KENNEDY
What a warzone out here. You do all this?
DAWN *smiles*
Yeah, try this
She hands Kennedy a spoonfull of some kind of sauce. Kennedy tastes the sauce.
KENNEDY
It's.... pretty good Dawn
DAWN
You're a terrible liar.
Dawn tastes the sauce herself.
DAWN
Oh my god, this is disgusting.
KENNEDY
You need any help?

Dawn and Kennedy are busy in the Summers' kitchen. The kitchen look like an even bigger warzone than before.
KENNEDY
Here, taste this
Kennedy hands Dawn a spoon with the newly made sauce.
DAWN
Oh my god...
KENNEDY
That good huh?
DAWN
Oh my god, I can't believe you let me taste that.
DAWN
What's that smell
Willow enters the kitchen.
WILLOW
Is something burning in here?
Kennedy looks at the oven.
KENNEDY
No!
She opens the oven and a cloud of smoke comes out of it.
DAWN
You suck at this even more than I do.
WILLOW
Hard to believe that two girls can be responsible for such a mess.
DAWN
Ok, let's start with the sauce. Let's try again.
KENNEDY
We're out of ingedients for the sauce, and for the quiche for that matter.
DAWN *slightly panicks*
Mitch is coming in a few hours
WILLOW
OK, don't panick. Kennedy, why don't you get new ingredients and I'll help Dawn here.
Kennedy walks out of the kitchen.

It's later that afternoon. The clock in the Summers' room says 7:30. The doorbell rings, Dawn opens the door.
It's Mitch, and he has a small bouquet of flowers in his hand.
MITCH
Hi
Dawn smiles and motions him to come inside. Verbally invising people inside has been a deadly habit in Sunnydale.
Mitch enters and hands the bouquet to Dawn.
DAWN
Thanks. Dinner is going to be a little late.
She walks Mitch to the living room, where Xander sits.
DAWN
You two talk, I have to finish dinner.
Dawn then walks off.
XANDER
I'm Xander
MITCH
Mitch
Mitch sits down in a chair.
XANDER
So, your the infamous Mitch I've heard so much about.
MITCH
You did?
XANDER
Well, actually I didn't hear much more than that you are going out with Dawn. It more a
matter of speaking.
Camera changes to the kitchen. It's hard to picture the warzone of before because the kitchen looks clean.
Willow is helping Dawn with some pointers. Kennedy is walkijg in and out of the kitchen with plates.
Dawn walks to the entrance to the living room. She puts her head around the corner and sees Mitch and Xander talking.
Dawn goes back into the kitchen.
After a short while, Dawn tastes the sauce and is satisfied. She, Willow and Kennedy bring dinner to the ding room.
Dawn goes to the living room where Xander and Mitch are still talking.
DAWN
Ok boys, dinner is ready.
Meanwhile, Shenk is watching the gangb through the window. Mitch sees him standing there but he doesn't think of it as
Shenk starts to chant very softly. We see his lips moving but we don't hear anything.
The camera shifts so that we see Willow, with Shenk chanting on the background. After a couple of seconds, he is done.
Without a further warning, Willow screams and falls to the floor. Dawn, Xander and Kennedy immediately rush toward her.
Willow looks up. Her eyes are black and her hair is changing color too. Willow looks extremely frightened.
MITCH
Oh my god! What happened to you?
Nobody feels particularly inclined to answer that question. Xander stretches his arm out towards Willow to help her
get up. She stretches her arm out to grab his, but cast a spell instead that leaves Xander gasping in pain.
WILLOW
I'm sorry
DAWN
What is happening?
WILLOW
I don't know, it just happened.
KENNEDY
This doesn't just happen.
WILLOW
I need to be.... not here.
Willow gets up and then runs up to her room.
XANDER
Ok, what was that?
KENNEDY
Your guess is as good as mine
MITCH
Maybe that guy had something to do with it.
DAWN
What guy?
MITCH
That guy that stood outside with window just a minute ago.
XANDER
And you waited to tell us because.....
MITCH
I didn't think it was important. We live in a bad neighbourhood where people constantly
look inside your house.
Dawn looks at Mitch. She smiles as if to say, "It's okay"
MITCH
I'll check outside.
Mitch walks outside to investigate. Dawn looks at Kennedy
DAWN
Remember that I talked about bad things happening when I brought him here?
Suddenly, they hear Mitch scream. Dawn, Kennedy and Xander run outside. They don't see Mitch anywhere.
DAWN
Bad things always happen
XANDER
We'll get him back Dawnie. Why don't you do a locator spell and we'll rescue him
Dawn runs inside.
KENNEDY
I'm staying here
XANDER
We need your help Kennedy.
KENNEDY
I want to be here for Willow. I'm not coming Xander.
XANDER
You can't do anything for Willow. She has to overcome this herself. It's obviously magic and she
is the best at that. And besides, just ask yourself... what would Willow want you to do?
KENNEDY *soft*
I'm worried about her. She looked so.... hurt
XANDER
That's how she looked when she killed Warren and tried to end the world. Well... apart from
the veins.
Camera changes to Willow's bedroom.
Willow is lying on her bed. She is looking at the ceiling with a look of fear on her face.
Her hair has turned to the same color as her eyes; completely black. Her veins are beginning to become more visible.
Camera changes back to Xander and Kennedy. They are in the living room now. Dawn comes running downstairs.
DAWN
I know where he is.
XANDER
Shouldn't be bring Willow?
DAWN
I tried. She won't respond.
Xander thinks for a few seconds.
XANDER
Let's go
Dawn and Xander head for the door.
KENNEDY
Uh, guys?
Dawn and Xander stop and look at Kennedy with a questioning look.
KENNEDY
Maybe if we don't wanna get killed we should maybe.. like.. pack some weapons.
Dawn and Xander look at each other and then walk to the weapons chest.
Camera changes to outside. We see Dawn, Kennedy and Xander walk out. Kennedy is holding a broadsword. Xander
is holding two daggers and Dawn has packed her favorite crossbow.

Willow is still on her bed. Her head is now turned sideways. Her veins are completely visible now. She is desperately
trying to talk courage into herself. All this while, she is shaking uncontrolably.
WILLOW *quietly*
I'm not evil. I won't do that. I can beat this...

Dawn, Xander and Kennedy arrive at a big office building.
DAWN
Here it is
XANDER
You wouldn't happen to have a room number too?
DAWN
Second floor, fifth office on the left.
XANDER
I'm impressed.
They walk inside. They don't even notice that the doors aren't locked.
When they arrive at the office Dawn was talking about, they storm in, only to find a seemingly normal office with
Mitch tied up in the center. They all rush to him and try to release him.
VOICE O.S.
Don't bother
Dawn, Kennedy and Xander look around them to find themselves completely surrounded. Vampires are all around them and
a person with a long robe stands before the doorway. The robed person speaks again. It is clear that it is Shenk.
SHENK
Surrender now and....
Dawn aims her crossbow at Shenk and shoots. Shenk manages to evade the bolt as it hits the wall.
Kennedy and Xander have begun battling the vampires. Dawn quickly loads up her crossbow and shoots one of
the vampires. Kennedy kills another one. Then, a vampire hits Xander on the head and he falls down.
Kennedy is kicked across the room. Dawn shoots another vampire. The vampires quickly gain the upper-hand
though. There's just too many.
After a few minutes, they are all tied up like Mitch.
DAWN *to Mitch*
Are you okay?
MITCH
I'll live
SHENK
That's lovely. Now, you are probably wondering why we haven't killed you all
XANDER
Let me guess, you want Willow
He motions three vampires and points at Kennedy.
SHENK
Bring her to my office.
The vampires pull Kennedy from the floor and drag her to an office at the opposite side of the corridor.
Inside, the man is sitting behind his desk. We have seen this office before.
Shenk offers Kennedy to sit down and she does. He orders the vampires out of the room. Kennedy's face
shows that she would love to kick the crap out of him, but she senses that he is more powerfull than her.
Besides, her hands are kinda tied behind her back.
SHENK
Welcome to my office. You want a drink?
KENNEDY
Why don't you come right to the point
SHENK
Okay, I want you to help me
KENNEDY
Would this, by any chance, have anything to do with Willow?
SHENK
Yes, it really would. You're going to help me kill her.
KENNEDY
You don't actually believe that, do you?
SHENK
I can give you anything you want. I can make you a slayer.
KENNEDY
You can do that?
SHENK
Without a problem. So, do we have a deal?
KENNEDY *smiles*
You know, it's good that you're evil
SHENK
Why is that?
KENNEDY
Because then it won't take you so long to find out when it is that hell is freezing over, which
is the time I will help you!
Shenk smiles for a moment. His face then turns angry and he starts hitting her face again and again.
KENNEDY *sarcastic*
You're a brave man. You don't even show your face while you beat up a tied-up woman.
Shenk pulls a dagger from his pocket and jams it into Kennedy's shoulder.
Kennedy screams

Willow is still in the same condition. She is still telling herself that it will be alright. Then suddenly,
she stops talking and looks straight in front of her. She then jumps off the bed and evaporated in thin air.

Kennedy is escorted back to Dawn, Xander and Mitch. Shenk throws Kennedy with Dawn, Xander and Mitch.
Kennedy looks as if she had just been boxing for ten rounds. She also has a knife sticking in her shoulder.
SHENK
She was very stubbourn.
He then motions the vampires to bring Dawn to his office. They don't get a lot of time to react as Willow
suddenly appears in the room. Shenk backs away. If we could see his face, it would surely express fear.
The vampires from all over the room charge at Willow. She doesn't give them a second glance. She waves her
hands and all the vampires combust. Shenk has now backed up against a wall. Willow walks to him.
Her appearance is downright frightening. She grabs his robe and pulls it off him.
They can all see Shenk's face now.
MITCH
Hey, that's the guy I saw outside the house.
Shenk starts to chant.
WILLOW
Silence!
Shenk tries to continue chanting but no words come out of his mouth.
Willow then notices the scratchmarks on Shenk's face. She looks at him and you can actually see her getting madder
and madder.
WILLOW
You.... bastard!... You... did... this... to... me!
With each word she hits him in the face. She then grabs his throat and holds him in the air, choking him.
XANDER
Willow!
Willow looks at Xander.
XANDER
Willow, we've been through this. Killing a human is never a good idea, even if it's a scumbag like
him.
Willow has a look of doubt, but she's still choking Shenk.
DAWN
Please Willow, don't do it. I don't wanna loose you again.
Kennedy looks up at Willow with a pleading look.
Willow lets go of Shenk as he falls to the ground, gasping for air.
Willow looks at the gang.
WILLOW *near tears*
He did this to me!
XANDER
You did the right thing Will
Willow looks back at Shenk, but he is no longer there. Willow turns her attention back to the gang.
WILLOW
Kennedy!
Willow waves her hands to untie the gang and then quickly turns her attention to Kennedy. She helps Kennedy on her
feet and supports her out of the office. The rest of the gang follows.

Dawn, Xander, Willow and Mitch arrive at the Summers' residence. Kennedy is not with them; she is probably in the
hospital. Willow is still all scary-veiny.
DAWN
Why don't we try to help you Willow
WILLOW
You can't help me with this
DAWN
That's where you're wrong, sit down
Willow sits down on the floor. Xander sits behind Willow, Dawn sits before her.
Dawn starts chanting. Her eyes are wide open. The spell is visibly tough as Dawn gets a hurt look on her face.
After a few minutes she stops the chant. She looks at Willow as if to say "I'm sorry"
Mitch sits down behind Willow too, so that he, Xander and Dawn for a triangle around Willow.
Dawn smiles and starts chanting again. She seems more powerfull now and after a couple of minutes, we see
black energy pouring out of Willow and into the ether. After a couple of minutes, the spell is complete and
Willow has returned to her old self. Everyone, most of all Dawn, looks very tired.
Willow hugs Dawn as to thank her.
WILLOW
I need to rest
XANDER
Yeah, me too
Willow heads upstairs and Xander heads to the living room.
DAWN
So....
MITCH
That was bracing.
DAWN
Are you freaked?
MITCH
No, strangely enough, I'm not
DAWN
What do you mean?
MITCH
I know that you can take care of yourself and that you have friends that care for you.
What's there to be freaked about.
DAWN
Well, there was the whole, you-getting-kidnapped thing.
MITCH
You came for me didn't you?
DAWN
Yes, but that....
MITCH
You know, I think none of my friends would have done what you and your friends did.
DAWN
...
MITCH
I love you Dawn
A tear of happiness appears on Dawn's face.
DAWN
I love you too Mitch
The two embrace and they kiss passionately

It is several days later. We don't exactly know how many days later. The gang, including Kennedy and Andrew are sitting
at the table eating dinner. They all look happy. The gang is talking about all sorts of things.
ANDREW
It was about time they let me out
XANDER
You make it sound like you were in jail
ANDREW
At least in jail, they let me bring my discman.
KENNEDY
Well, I'm sure glad to be home again. Hospitals give me the screeps.
MITCH
Yeah, sorry about that
KENNEDY
Not your fault. But I do wonder where that guy went.
WILLOW
I'm guessing we'll find out soon enough.
DAWN
Yeah, I'm afraid we haven't heard the last of him.
The doorbell rings. Kennedy gets up but it clearly hurts.
DAWN *to Kennedy*
I'll get it
Dawn opens the front door to find Giles standing there.
