WILLPOWER PART 7: THE RITUAL OF GHIOR

We are at casa Summer again. It is dark outside, but since the lights are on across the street, it can''t be that late.
Willow and Xander are sitting alone in the living room.
XANDER
So, Giles is reopening the Magic Box?
WILLOW
Yeah, it's great huh? He's opening tomorrow
XANDER
Yeah, I mean, I never thought he would actually do it
WILLOW
What do you mean?
XANDER
Well, for one, the store was a total ruin
WILLOW
Well, it got fixed
XANDER
Are you saying that Giles managed to repair all the damage you caused in a matter of days?
WILLOW *beat*
I don't know how, but yes.
XANDER
I'm sorry. It's just that...
WILLOW *softens*
I know. It won't be the same.
Dawn and Kennedy enter.
XANDER
Hey Dawnster, how was the date with Mike?
DAWN
It's Mitch.... and everything was fine
KENNEDY *sounding very anxious to begin*
I'm having my first training tomorrow. I still can't believe Giles is my watcher.
WILLOW *serious*
Actually, I have something to say too
XANDER
Gee, you sound all serious Will.
WILLOW
Giles and I had a talk yesterday..... and he asked me to become a watcher
KENNEDY
What?!
XANDER
When?
DAWN
How?
WILLOW
Tomorrow, Giles will start teaching me
KENNEDY *doing her best not to sound jealous*
That's great Willow, but did't you want to finish college first
WILLOW
I will finish college.... but Giles thinks I can do both.
DAWN
I can't believe he asked you to become a watcher. I thought that was sort of a family business.
WILLOW *smiles*
Well, when there's only a handfull of them left, traditions don't mean that much
XANDER *jokes*
You're not going to turn to being this stuffy guy who only likes books and tea will you?
WILLOW
I think it's fair to assume that I won't turn into a stuffy guy
KENNEDY
I'm going to take a shower
Kennedy walks upstairs. Noone notices, but she doesn't look very happy. As she walks up the stairs, she hears
the gang go on and on about how Willow is perfect to become a watcher. Kennedy's expression changes.
She looks dissapointed.

We see Shenk in a darkened room. It's not an office like before. It looks like a living room, but all the furniture
has been shoved to one side, leaving one half of the room completely empty.
Shenk is calling on his master like he did before. Just like before, a portal appears from which a voice speaks to him.
The voice is low, loud and is has a soft echo.
VOICE
Who calls on me?
SHENK
Your faithfull servant, Shenk Pathos
VOICE
Did you do as I ordered? Did you kill the witch?
SHENK
No my lord, the witch is too strong. She's more powerful than me
VOICE *angry*
Of course she is too powerful, you fool!
SHENK
They have seen my face. What must I do?
VOICE *calms down*
...... Perform the ritual of Ghior. It will make you stronger.
SHENK
And will I be stronger than the witch after I complete the ritual.
VOICE
That, you will be
A wicked smiles appears on Shenk's face.
SHENK
How do I perform this ritual?
A piece of parchment appears from nowhere in front of Shenk. Shenk takes the parchment and reads it.
It doesn't seem to be a human language, but Shenk seems to be able to read it.
SHENK
Most of these ingredients I can get at the local magic shop, but there are three things that...
VOICE
Yes... the amulet of Ghior.. the book of Blood.. and.. the blood of a witch.
SHENK
Why did you not tell me about this ritual before?
VOICE
Do not speak to me like that again Shenk!
Sehnk quickly realizes his mistake and tries to cover up.
SHENK
I'm sorry master. I realize that you must have your reasons and I...
VOICE *interrupts Shenk*
The book of Blood appeared in town only yesterday, and the ritual can only be performed
once every two-hundred years.
SHENK
Please master, tell me what I need to know
VOICE
Very well... but do not fail again

Giles and Andrew are at the Magic Box. The sore is open for business and a small amount of customers are browsing
through the shelves. Andrew is trying to help Giles but he drops a jar on the floor and a greasy substance splats
when the glass breaks on the ground. Fortunately, it is in the far back of the store and none of the potential
customers noticed. Andrew quickly runs to the basement to get something to clean this up.
GILES
Why does it have to be you who has to help me?
ANDREW *cleans up*
Because Dawn and Willow have school and Kennedy has to work.
GILES
And don't you have to work?
ANDREW
I took a day off.
Andrew pauses for a second.
ANDREW
Giles, how come the magic box is not, well... destroyed? Last time I remember was crazy-wicca girl
ravaging the place. And now it looks like nothing ever happened.
GILES
I don't know. It was like nothing happened when I was here. I think Anya had something to do with it.
ANDREW
Why do you say that?
GILES
I've looked at the books and it says that this place has been partially rebuilt by a building
company.
ANDREW
You mean Xander....
GILES
No, another company
ANDREW
That's weird.
GILES
Yes, but the company said that she paid in cash
ANDREW
Where did Anya get so much money? I mean, the place was a mess.
GILES
I don't know... but let's not ache our heads over this. There are customers at the counter.
ANDREW
I can see them
Giles gives him a glare.
ANDREW
Oh! You mean...?
Andrew walks over to the customers to help them while Giles watches him. A man approaches Giles. It is Shenk, but neither
Giles nor Andrew have ever met him, so they don't recognize him.
SHENK
Excuse me.
GILES
Hello, how can I help you?
SHENK
I'm looking for powdered snakeskin, styx water and some newt eyes
GILES
Ah, a customer who knows what he wants!
Giles walks around the shop and gathers the ingredients for the man. He then sends him over to Andrew for paying.
Shenk then walks to the front door of the Magic Box. As he opens the door, Kennedy comes walking in. She bumps into
Shenk but she doesn't recognize him.
KENNEDY
Hi Giles, after a lot of begging, they told me I could go home early today. So, you need some help
before we begin?
GILES *smiles*
Thank you Kennedy, that would be helpfull
Another large group of customers walk in. Giles looks a little worried.
GILES
This has been such a long time ago...
KENNEDY
Star-Wars-boy not helping much is he?
GILES
ActuallyHe's doing surprisingly well at the counter. If he makes a few crazy comments every now and
then it's just like having Anya back.
KENNEDY
So, what can I do?
GILES
Help Andrew
KENNEDY
Ok
Kennedy walks behind the counter and starts helping customers together with Andrew.

Kennedy, Andrew and Giles all sit on the floor, complaining about their feet and backs.
GILES
This is just as bad as the last time I opened the magic box
KENNEDY
Really?
GILES
Yes, but I figured it would be easier this time
ANDREW
I'm gonna go home and have some dinner
GILES
Kennedy and me are a little busy for awhile
KENNEDY
Ok then, I'll be in the training room.
GILES
You know about that?
KENNEDY
Willow told me you used the backroom as a training room.
GILES
Right. Ok then, you warm up in the back
KENNEDY *walking to the back*
Right!
Giles let's Andrew out and closes the door behind Andrew. He then joins Kennedy in the training room.

We see Giles strapped up in protective gear. He throws a bag at Kennedy too. He then grabs two quarterstaffs
out of the cabinet.
GILES
Let's begin basic weapons training. We start with the quarterstaff.
KENNEDY
Oh come on Giles, I'm never going to use that.
GILES
You never know with what you will be fighting.
KENNEDY
Ok then.
She grabs the quarterstaff and holds it horizontally with two hand before her.
GILES
Put on your pads
KENNEDY
I'm not using pads to fight you
GILES *smiles*
You know, Buffy said the same thing when she had this lesson.
Kennedy holds up the quarterstaff and she and Giles begin to fight. Giles is clearly better at this than Kennedy
and he quickly beats her on her leg, her arm and her shoulder. Kennedy falls down.
KENNEDY
Ow! Go easy will you.
GILES
You're the one who refused to wear pads. Care to take a minute to put them on?
KENNEDY
Not needed.
Kennedy and Giles get ready for another round. Kennedy fights with some skill but Giles hits her shoulder again,
then hits the staff out of her hands and then waves the staff towards Kennedy's head, only to stop an inch from it.
Kennedy realizes that she'd have been be badly injured if he hadn't stopped.
KENNEDY *forced smile*
Maybe I should put on my pads
GILES
A wise decision

Dawn and Mitch are sitting in the Summers' living room. It is still light.
MITCH
So, tell me some stuff about this town.
DAWN *smiles*
What do you mean?
MITCH
I heard something about someone called Buffy. Who is she?
DAWN
That would be my sister
MITCH
But the way they were talking about her made her sound like....like some sort of.... hero.
DAWN
Yes, that's Buffy
MITCH
Tell me something about her.
DAWN
Well, Buffy was the slayer.... I mean IS the slayer!
MITCH
You lost me
DAWN
This is Giles' favorite part: "In every generation a slayer is born. One girl in all the world.
A chosen one with........"
She notices Mitch is staring at her.
DAWN
How's about I just give you the short version?
MITCH *relieved*
That would be appreciated
DAWN
Buffy was a slayer. A slayer is a human with the strength and skill to fight the demons.
She fought the ultimate evil. We know she survived but she disappeared afterwards.
MITCH
So, why did she leave?
DAWN *getting a bit angry*
I don't know, okay!
DAWN *softens up again*
Sorry for that. It's just that we've been looking for her for months but so far.. nothing.
Willow has been using her magic to search but the world is a big place.
MITCH
Okay, tell me more about Willow
DAWN
Willow's human. She's been practicing magic for more than five years. She's
exceptionally strong.
MITCH *impressed*
I noticed that. Does her hair and eyes always go back?
DAWN
It went like that once, and then again when you saw it. That was only the second time
and it was because someone did that to her.
MITCH
So someone cast a spell on her the first time?
DAWN
No, not really.
MITCH
What was that then?
DAWN
That was anger. This guy, Warren, shot her girlfriend.
MITCH
So what happened?
DAWN
She flayed him alive, and then went for his associates. I think you know Andrew. She kicked the
ass of everyone who tried to stop her, including Buffy until she finally overloaded and decided to
destroy the world. Thankfully, Xander was able to talk her out of it.
Mitch looks at Dawn with disbelief.
DAWN
That's the short version
MITCH
Flayed alive?
DAWN *serious*
Yeah, so you might want to be careful around Kennedy
MITCH *scared*
You think....
DAWN *smiling wide*
No, of course not. I'm just kidding. Willow is totally over that now.
She would never do that sort of thing again.
MITCH *still not completely relieved*
That's good to know
Mitch looks at his watch.
MITCH
Okay Dawn I gotta go. You know.. parent.. dinner.. the usual.
DAWN
I'll walk with you
The two leave the house together.
From across the street, Shenk is watching them from behind a tree. When Dawn and Mitch are out of sight, he
comes out of his hiding place and walks to the front door of the Summers' house.

Willow and Giles are at the magic box. They sit at a table together and we can hear someone working out in
the training room. We can assume that it's Kennedy but we can't see her.
GILES
Well, there is one thing a watcher does more than anything
WILLOW
Let me guess, read?
GILES
Good guess
He takes a big pile of books from the floor and hands puts them on the table.
GILES
These are some important ones. Just go through them one by one.
WILLOW
I can do that
GILES
I know you can. That's why I asked you. And I want to thank you for doing this for me.
WILLOW
Now Gils, don't get me wrong.. but I didn't do this for you. I did it for me. I want to
help people. That's the reason why I stayed in Sunnydale in the first place.
GILES
That's good, because becoming a watcher is not easy.... and living as a watcher is not
easy either.
GILES *stands up*
I'm going to see how Kennedy is doing.
WILLOW
Can I take these books home
GILES
Yes, but one at a time will probably do
Willow grabs one of the books. We can see the title of the book that is now on top: "Book of Blood". Willow heads
for the door. Giles, meanwhile, is heading back to the training room.
WILLOW
Bye Giles!
Willow opens the door and goes outside. We hear the comfortable bell of the Magic Box as she leaves.

Willow arrives home. It looks like she has been walking the way home. She arrives at the door to see the lock
demolished and the door slightly opened.
WILLOW
Oh great!
Willow enters the house and grabs the phone. the dials a number and waits for a few seconds for someone to answer.
WILLOW
Giles? There is a problem. Someone broke into our house.
GILES
Is he.... or she.... still in the house?
WILLOW
I don't think so.
Willow looks around, but nothing seems different. The TV is still there and Dawn's jewelry box is on the table.
For a second, Willow askes herself why Dawn keeps that downstairs but she realizes that she's on the phone.
WILLOW
It doesn't look like a robbery. The pricy stuff is still there. But locks don't destroy itself!
GILES
We'll be right over
Some time later, Giles and Kennedy arrive at the Summers' home.
KENNEDY *shouts*
Willow?
WILLOW *yells from upstairs*
I'm up here!
Giles and Kennedy walk upstairs and they find Willow in her own room. It has been completely trashed.
KENNEDY
Ok, this is not nornmal. Why would a thief go straight to your room. there's nothing here but...
WILLOW
..magic stuff
KENNEDY
Do you know if anything is missing?
WILLOW
I looked for the powerful items I had, and there is one thing missing; and amulet.
The amulet of Ghior.
GILES
I know about that amulet. I didn't know you had it. It is a part of the ritual of Ghior.
That ritual also requires one of the books I have. It's one of the books I asked you to read.
WILLOW
So, if the person who took the amulet wants to perform the ritual, he's going to need the book?
GILES
Well yes.... oh god!
Giles and Willow rush out of the room.
KENNEDY
What?

Giles, kennedy and Willow arrive at the Magic Box. This place too has been breaked in. Willow runs over to the pile of
books and searches through them.
WILLOW
It's not here Giles.
KENNEDY
Giles? Does this ritual require anything more?
GILES
Well... let me think for a minute........... blasted, I should know this!
WILLOW
Is the ritual described in one of the other books?
GILES *brightens up*
Yes, I believe so.
Giles runs to one of the bookshelves and grabs a book. He flips some of the pages and then begins reading.
A worried look appears on his face.
GILES
Well...
WILLOW
Come on Giles!
GILES
Oh good lord.
WILLOW
What?
GILES
It needs the amulet of Ghior, the book of Blood, styx water, powdered snakeskin, newt eyes...
I sold that to a customer today
WILLOW
Tou're making a habit of that Giles. How did that person look.
GILES
Well, black man. Well built. I'd say about forty years old, business suit and a scar on his face.
WILLOW
Would that be sort of a scratchmark?
Willow shows the place on her own face.
GILES
Yes, you know him
KENNEDY
Only from him kidnapping Mitch and beating the hell out of me
Giles reads on.
GILES
It requires one more ingredient, the blood of a witch.
KENNEDY
You say that someone wants Willow?
WILLOW
Or....
KENNEDY/GILES
Dawn!
They all run out of the Magic Box.

Dawn and Mitch are in a house we don't know. It's prpbably Mitch's house. Other than them, there is noone
home. They are sitting on the couch, watching a movie. Dawn has her head on Mitch's chest.
Suddenly, a loud knock is heard at the front door. Dawn shoots up in surprise.
Mitch walks over to the front door and opens it to find Willow, Kennedy and Giles standing there.
WILLOW
Dawn, you need to come with us, now!
DAWN
What's wrong
KENNEDY
Just come with us
DAWN
No! I wanna know what's going on.
KENNEDY
We know that... that guy.... has been gathering ingredients for a spell.
He only needs one more ingredient; the blood of a witch.
DAWN
So they're going for Willow?
WILLOW
Or for you!
GILES
The ritual can only be performed this night. We just have to protect you until sunrise.
WILLOW
I propose we barricade the house.
DAWN *to Mitch*
You coming?
MITCH
I don't know
DAWN
I'd feel safer if you were there
MITCH
Ok then
They all walk out of the house.

The gang arrives at the Summers' house. Xander and Andrew have been picked up on the way over there.
Everyone grabs a weapon from the weapons chest and the gang waits downstairs. Willow does a spell.
We can't understand a word she says, but a barrier of energy suddenly appears around the house.
WILLOW
Now we wait
Suddenly, three demons run down from the stairs. All the scoobies defend themselves. Willow wants to
cast a spell, but the demons are too close to her friends so she can't take the risk.
The demons are quickly defeated anyway though.
GILES
Next time, before we barricade in somewhere... make sure it is safe there.
Th rest of the gang shrugs as they sit down again.

Sunrise. The first glimps of sunlight appear over the hills near Sunnydale.
WILLOW
Giles, are you sure the ritual could only happen tonight?
GILES
Well, they'll have another shot in about two-hundred years.
DAWN
So, that means I'm safe?
GILES
As safe as always
DAWN
Very comforting.
Kennedy suddenly starts smiling.
WILLOW *to Kennedy*
What's up?
KENNEDY *smiling*
Nothing... it's just... I'm imagening that guy's face right now

Shenk is in his office again. He looks very serious and opens the portal again.
SHENK
It is I master. Your faithful servant, Shenk Pathos
VOICE
Did you complete the ritual
SHENK
Yes master.....
Camera focusses to the corner of the room where Amy lies in the corner... dead.
She's lying in a big pool of blood. Shenk's voice suddenly gets a bit lower.
SHENK
...I did
