"Zzzz...shuh?..." At first Virgil wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not, as he felt Redd curling up in his lap. If he was, he had no intention of waking up anytime soon. He blinked, suddenly, swallowing hard as a brief, painful flash of images shot through his mind, as he remembered watching her fall...then he wrapped arm around her waist, strking the back of her head with the other, careful of her swollen belly.
"You have no idea," he whispered back, easing her face off his neck and her lips to his own. It was a long time before either of them could speak after that.
"Promise not to scare my like that again," he said as their lips finally parted. Suddenly his eyes went wide, as he remembered something else.
Waitaminute...Swollen belly?? His eyes travelled down Redd's slim form, then back up to her face. "Wait...is that..." The look on her face told it all. "Ohmygod...." Then he remembered something, and sent out a quick telepathic flash to Calenderi.
"Way ahead of you, small human," came the reply. "I'll have it waiting for you when the two of you step outside." He could "see" her smiling. Congratulations on your new hatchling."
"Uhh...uh-huh," Virgil replied, still stunned by it all....but he knew that, with what he'd already planned, this would all work out perfectly...
