Hmmmm...

To breed a dog with bad hips in the hopes of improving them when there are other dogs that have better hips/health/temperment is wrong no matter what...don't breed a less than perfect animal...degrees of perfection...maybe...but health wise...it's just something that I don't think should be done...

As for shipping a dog with a heart murmur...I find nothing wrong with that as long as the buyer was aware of the condition...and as long as the dog came with a guarantee... something like "if dog is not what you want, if murmur proves worse than expected breeder takes dog back, no questions asked, refund deposit if buyer chooses to buy from someone else and NOT wait for a replacement etc..." Also I think that a "spay or neuter" contract would be a necessary... If all of that has been met...then I see no problem in shipping out said dog with heart murmur as long as murmur was disclosed prior to "sale"...

To me that's more stand up then breeding dogs with less then good hip/health scores and not refunding a deposit if buyer feels uneasy about buying from breeder or becomes unable to purchase a pup for one reason or another... Breeding dogs is not a service...if a dog is a good specimen and others wanted pick but had been spoken for with a deposit...it's not like buyers for said pup would be hard to locate should sale fall through...

It's personal choice and this kind of thing is what buyers should be asking themselves before EVER purchasing a pup or choosing a breeder... Set guidlines for what you as a buyer feels is qualifications of a reputable breeder/person/business partner and choose a breeder based on those qualifications...NEXT check out those breeder's dogs.

I choose a breeder who will give as much as I give to get me a pup that is right for me...or help me get a pup right for me (whether that's giving up a deposit, sending a dog with a murmur, or taking back a dog that doesn't "fit" the family). I choose a breeder who's first priority is the dogs health, Temperment, Job and wellbeing, who's first priority is educating buyers on the breed, who's second priority is doing right by buyers/friends/business partners and who's LAST priority is making $$$, or saving face. When I breed (if I choose to) I will fashion myself after a breeder that meets those qualifications.
