Jerry has answered the question about the "deposit" and I agree 100%. Adults should decide what they want BEFORE placing a deposit and holding a puppy. As for the rest of this post. I often breed bitches at their second heat. If they are not ready to breed by then they may not be breeding material in the first place. I do not know of anyone charging more for brindles than other colors, but if they are worth more then so be it (I have some brindles now if anyone would like to pay me a little extra for them). Hips are only one part of the dog. An important one to be sure, but if a dog (or in this case a bitch) were exceptional in most other areas and had less than perfect hips it might not be totally wrong to breed her with a good male with better than average hips. I am fortunate in that my bitches have good hips and I have not been faced with that choice.
I think a more serious detriment to the breed is someone calling themselves a breeder and shipping a pup that they knew had a severe heart murmur.
