Fisrt of all I just want to say that John has NEVER called or e-mailed me to ask me to post positive things about Ammo. I did so because I'm sick of seeing people post nasty things about my dogs when they know nothing about them. Terry, I don't know you, but this is the second dog of mine you have posted about on this board (the first was RIK Ranger) without knowing ANYTHING about them or my situation. As I have proven in my previous post, demodex is considered contagious by any vet who went to vet school in the past decade. Feel free to call Dr. Andrew Kaplan of Rivergate Veterinary Center in Manhattan - (212)-213-9885, or Dr. Marty Goldstein of Smith Ridge (914) 533-6066, or try the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan and ask for the dermatology department. Better yet, call Dr. Megan Duffy at Katonah-Bedford Vet (914) 241-7700 - she graduated from Colorado State Vet School a few years ago and is a good friend of mine and will be happy to discuss demodex at length with anyone who has questions. All of these vets told me to keep Ammo away from ALL puppies since their immune systems are not strong enough to resist the mange. So I guess John's version of what really happened in regards to the demodex in his kennels makes sense. I was at John's when I went to pick Ammo up because he insisted on meeting me, and I saw ALL of his dogs. They were healthy, happy and unbelievably gorgeous. John had planned to keep Ammo for himself, as anyone who read the USBA board knows, and decided to place him because he wouldn't risk breeding a dog with demodex. He took Ammo to the vet several times to treat the mange and Ammo was well on the way to recovery when we brought him home. As I know FROM EXPERIENCE, there are breeders out there who would've thrown Ammo on a plane without caring about where he was being placed, there are breeders who would've kept him for breeding, there are breeders who would've sold him as a breeding quality dog since his hips, confirmation, and tempermant are awesome, and there are breeders who would be unavailable every time I have questions or need advice. John Blackwell is not one of those breeders. I have found him honest, caring, and heads above the other breeders I have spoken to and dealt with in this breed. I would get another pup from him in a second and I have heard many other people with his dogs say the same. As a matter of fact, I have yet to hear a negative comment from someone with one of his dogs, aside from hearsay from people with an obvious grudge against him. So, Terry, why don't you let people who actually have had experiences with John and seen his dogs come forward and speak about their experiences. I have a "SABT" boerboel who was born in SA who has had 2 major hip surgeries at the age of 9 months, and is afraid of his own shadow, but, of course, we love him anyway. But now I am happy to say I have Ammo, who is a true example of what the breed is supposed to be. Thank you John for my big goofy boy who I love and adore. Anyone who has any question about my experiences or my dogs should feel free to e-mail me...
