Good questions Terry. I firmly believe a dog should not be able to be appraised unless it has passed health tests. Hips, prolapse, etc. A score of 90% doesn't mean a thing if the hips are bad. Most of the dogs I have bought for breeding, never even made it past the pennhip.

Having indurance and temperment tests would be a good way to insure these dogs aren't being turned into porch dogs. They would also be fun! I have an A-Frame set up in my back yard for the dogs to run over.

I do like the idea of the appraisal system. Since the Boerboels are the only breed that has it (that I am aware of). It is a good tool to have in a breeding program. Although the appraisal system does need to be more strict. I think the dogs should be a bit older when tested also. A 9 month old pup has a lot of growing and maturing to do. Instead of every year, wait until the dog is 2 years old. These are just my opinions. Rayna
