NDE,

How did I know you would jump in to discuss this one?? lol.

What I wrote is just my opinion…right or wrong in the grand view of things it is one of many. I feel that maintaining conformation is important. The dog has to look like a Boerboel, and the physical characteristics consistent. Conformation alone is not enough but I do believe that an appraisal system has definite merit and is beneficial overall.

Genetic vs Conditioned temperament. Temperament is partially what the dog is born with, predetermined by genetics. It is also what the dog experiences from birth onwards.
I was just making a general statement that takes into consideration that there are dogs which may have been born with stable temperaments, but due to lack of socializing (kennel dogs for example)or other which may appear fearful..etc.(for which the BREEDER should be penalized if reoccurring) This would be one example of conditioned temperament. This is more what I was referring to. It is difficult to test temperament in a one day or weekend event offering TT.

Testing working temperament is a different forum all together. It ideally is a detailed training and testing program over an extended period of time, suited to do just that...determine true temperament and ability.

If there were a way to enforce hip certifications together with appraisals, of course this would be yet another positive step forward…but I think that again, there is reason to believe this is impractical to have one organization enforce this and accept some level of responsibility for the resulting registered dogs. If it becomes required, great...but either way, ultimately it is still the responsibility of the breeders to adhere to screening hips, and the responsibility of the public to demand it.
