My first visit to this message b. was a pleasant surprise. Open and honest dicussion is long overdue for the Bb. Well said JB and DKH. These are cold facts about the past, present and the future of the breed.
Any breed has a history that explains it's purpose. Also the Bb. It had to be of use for the pioneer farmer. Most present day Bbs would not have survived Southern Africa from 1652 to ,say, 1899. To discard functionality and endurance because it is not required by the present day breeder is a sin against the breed. Have we not seen enough man made canine disasters?

Owners who do not want to work their Bbs. should not dictate the way forward. Leave it to those who have the determination and dedication to preserve what nature has handed us. And be gratefull for their efforts.

The phrase " Historically Correct Boerboel" was not coined by the HBSA So please do not see the work David Harris and others have been asked to undertake as only for the benefit of the HBSA. David is an independent person with views similar to many others of different orgs. who share concerns about where the breed is heading. He has willingly accepted the responsibility and we thank those who are prepaired to share views and experience, even of other breeds. It has been HBSA policy to bring those with a common vision for the breed together in consultation. The venue or vehicle for this is smaller than the Boerboel breed.

The goal is to KEEP THE BOERBOEL FUNCTIONAL. This should not interfere with the desires of the ordinary Bb owner. BUT IT WILL PLACE MORE RESPONSIBILITY ON BREEDERS as well as organizations.

We should not emulate the GSD or other breeds. The Bb IS DIFFERENT and I have full confidence that as the process developes the right solutions will come to the fore.

Please give David your full support. The Boerboel is entering exciting times and future owners will be indebted to those who were prepared to stand up and be counted.

Keep it up
CAREL KOCH
