Subject: I wish I could find one of these boerboels
In reply to: Carel Koch 's message, "Re: The Historical Boerboel" on 12:09:06 11/20/03 Thu

I will be blunt, I am having thoughts about not owning or breeding boerboels because of the current boerboels I have. I have spent mroe time and money trying to get them well-behaved adjusted pets, because they can't even get close to doing any work. I have one boerboel that will get into a weight pull harness, but this is not what the boerboel was bred for and really weight pull is not my cup of tea. I also have American Bulldogs, and let me tell you that I love the fact that I take my AB's hog hunting once a month even though it costs me over $1000 for just one weekend, and I don't even title my dogs in hog hunting, it's just having the knowledge that my Abs can do what they were bred for. Mainly what I am saying is how hard is it to get a real working boerboel? Seems like it's a huge chance, but if someone out there can show me that there are some real working boerboels out there that aren't complete and utter pretty English Mastiffs( seems that's what the boerboel is going to end up like), my faith has been renewed in the breed. Right now I am just trying to clean up the mess on my current boerboels then place them, but hopefully I will be in the market for some working boerboel within a year or so. I am in no hurry, because I would rather have a damn good boerboel than run out and get another basket case like the ones I have had. I have had one that was an all out worker, but he didn't even have papers, so of course he was sent to a friend of mine that I hunt with and he is doing awesome working with top trainers in K9PS and is even preparing for Irondog competitions, so we will see what a boerboel is capable of.
Again I apoligize for my ranting and raving.
Lynn
