Dan,

Absolutely. Cross-bred dogs do tend to be healthier than pure-breds. Why? Most breeds these days have been in-bred So much the the vigor has gone right out the window. It happens when the gene pools are narrowed down so small that in-breeding takes place and here we go trying to rid the lines of problems in later years. When we created them in the first place. I have spent the last 2 years putting together a 30 year dream of mine. Ever since I was small I wanted to take care of everything that started with animal. So 2 years ago I put together a package for a foundation to start an animal sanctuary called "All Creatures Great and Small" we are in the final prep stages of opening the sanctuary. We have about 6 months to go before I see my dream complete. I found a wonderful piece of property that has 400 acres, natural springs, rolling hills and quiet secluded pastures. The goal is to take in unwanted and neglected animals of every type. If I am going to breed I should put back. My way of putting back is giving homes to all of the ones who don't have a home or someone to love them. Animals will stay at the sanctuary until they die of old age or find a forever home. I am a firm believer that every animal born has the perfect owner out there they just need to be found and shelters don't have the time or the resources to wait until that person comes through the door. I have so many people behind and backing this project on a national level it's unbelievable the attention it has generated. The sanctuary has been set up as non-for-profit in the state of Missouri and will house all types of animals from elephants to ants if need be. My goal is to reduce the number of animals that have been abused and neglected and to work with the public on education of animal care and our policy is very clear. If it can be spayed or neutered it will be, before it leaves the sanctuary. Our goals are to help animals live long happy lives with loving families and if one can't be found right away, they will have a place with us at the sanctuary until they find their forever home. It's been a long time coming. Melinda
