It helps clear things up, and I'm sure there must have been others that were curious also. Then again, maybe not :)

Anyways,

In regards to the crossbreeding. I agree to a certain extent. The National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP) revealed that approx. 25% of the dogs in shelters are pure bred. There have been studies that show that on average, crossbred dogs are healthier and have longer life spans. So now, this opens a can of worms. You start to get into the debate of whether breeding purebreds is ethical as well. The practices of culling get tossed into the mix also. Is it right to breed dogs for a profit (no matter how small of a profit it may be) when you have these ethical challenges to work against you:

1) Between 5-9 million pets are euthanized each year.

2) Many of these euthanized crossbreeds are healthier than the purebreeds.

3) The majority (I dont have a stat on this yet) of breeding programs, use euthanization as a main culling practice, just to keep their lines clean.

4) When you consider the way that the majority of people tend to treat their dogs, is it ethical to add more dogs to this world so that more humans can abuse them?

I know that this type of discussion can get real messy, but these are some of the many questions that I myself have thought about before. Some being the reason why I have not gone into breeding as of yet. If anyone would like to take this debate further, you know that I'm game! :)

Thanks,

Dan G.
