I competed in the MRS. United States pageant, too. Loved the other delegates but it was POORLY run, the director is CHEAP, won't spend a DIME on anything- (one year, many years ago a delegate got sick and wasn't able to compete, and the director made her roommate pay for half of the hotel bill, because she had a room of her own!!!!!)
and there were a lot of questions (and they still continue) about the outcome being not quite so fair.... Don't waste your time, ladies!

Boy are you ever right! Was in it years ago and it was a fiasco to say the least!! The director is not only cheap, but wacko as well!! Was wandering around the hotel hallways in her 'housecoat' and slippers asking some of the husbands to let her borrow money so we wouldn't get thrown out of the hotel! Also, you're right, the winners have been somewhat questionable...seems that there was always some kind of an 'angle' with Isabella...I could go on for days about that experience, but wouldn't want to bore everyone...let's just say the whole thing soured me on pageants for YEARS!!

I competed in the pageant too, recently, and enjoyed the experience. It is the wonderful ladies that you meet there and the experience of a national pageant that make all the difference. Read the latest comments on the TFTJ site and you will see what I mean. I've competed in several major pageant systems over the years as a Miss and Mrs. I am sorry that you are so bitter. Like anything--if you set your expectations too high--than you only set yourself up for major disapointments.

Boo--hoo!! Sounds like a bunch of "sore losers". There are LOTS of you people around in pageantry!!! If you think THAT was the worst--well-you have not been in many pageants!!!! I can make a list and go on and on.....They ALL have their own "horror" stories. Sounds like you would rather pay $3,000 to be in a "pageant" and have the winner already "determined" before it begins!!! Or better yet--you like the so-called national pageants that are springing up all over--the ones that you pay $300- $600(plus your own expenses to get there and a room and food to be paid by you) and compete with 6 or seven other women for 2-3 days and parade on a portable stage, etc, and get a bag full of Hawaiian Tropic products, and a Pageantry Magazine---whoooo! Oh now THAT'S a national pageant!! Go have a blast and spend your money in one of THOSE pageants!! Or as someone mentioned--go on a vacation with your husband and forget Pageantry!!

Um, no, it is a really awful pageant, and I have been in both Mrs. America and Mrs. International national pageants.
Some of the state pageant directors in the United States system are very good, but the national pageant is a different story.

[> [> [> Re: Mrs. United States -- So have I been in other pageants. I can remember standing outside in Las Vegas competing in the heat in evening gown competition. How ridiculous. I could go on and on but no need to rehash bad memories of Mrs. A and other systems. Some aren't even around anymore., 22:10:42 08/25/01 Sat

This is sad. Pageantry is supposed to be fun and encourage women to reach goals and help others. I would have given anything for an opportunity to go to the Nationals for the Mrs. United States Pageant. Unfortunately, it was not my year. I placed fourth. Be grateful for the chance to go, I would have gladly gone in your place and made the best of it. Look inside yourself and ask what is really important in life? God Bless.
