Fred, Just a few comments on what you said, and I'm not trying to argue with you at all, just trying to clear up a few points. I think we can respectfully agree to disagree if you still think some of my comments are totally stupid.

"...everything you just mentioned was it is for the betterment of the breeders and the owners, not the betterment of the breed..." Not necissarily. If these Leopard hounds start to win, hunting and performing as they do now, more people will be interested in hunting one. That will mean better growth of the breed. I think you don't have to change a thing in order to compete with the hounds. I think they will do well.

"...Cracks me up, a guy who hasn't owned a Leopard Cur telling someone who does own and love the dogs how I should act or feel..." I wasn't trying to tell anyone how they should act or feel, I'm sorry if I came off that way. I really like the Leopard and, no, I don't own one yet, but I plan to. I'm just not financially able to at this point, thats why I hunt dogs for people. Someday I hope to have a whole kennel dedicated to nothing BUT Leopard Hounds, but I hope you understand what the situation I have is now. I do like these dogs. I don't love them YET, but I'm sure I will after I've hunted/raised a few myself.

I hope it doesn't come down to having 2 breeds. I don't know what the ALCBA will do with its registration office and all, but Allen Gingerich told me today that when the moved was passed to make it American Leopard Hound, you also passed the motion to change the association name to American Leopard Hound Breeders Association. I'm not trying to stir trouble, but thats what he said. And UKC is planning on helping put on a big ALHBA breed days like the other breeds do with Purina points hunts and all. That doesn't mean you have to cancel the world or little world hunt, it'll just help to get more people hunting with these dogs.

Any dog that is now registered with the ALCBA is eligible for registration in UKC. In fact, thats the best way to be registered American Leopard Hound. If your dogs were registered Cur through UKC, you should have already gotten your new Hound papers and easy entry card. There is a single registration process, but it involves going with an approved ALHBA breed inspector, treeing its own game according to Leopard Hound standards, and meeting Leopard breed standards. They aren't going to let anyone walk up and register a mutt as a Leopard Hound. In fact, I may be wrong about the single registration without ALCBA papers. YOu may not be able to do it at all. I'll check with Allen tommorrow so I can let you know for sure.

I do care about these dogs Fred. For you to make comments like I don't is kind of unfair. I hope I can meet you someday, and hunt together, and become friends. I think if all the Leopard breeders and fanciers come together to make this transition work, and keep the quality dogs you've got now, it WILL be a big help in the long run.

Respectfully,

Paul Frederick
