Paul, the problem with everything you just mentioned was it is for the betterment of the breeders and the owners, not the betterment of the breed, IMO. "Its not going to change the way the dog looks, sounds or hunts." I beg to differ with you on that on sir, the dogs will evolve into what comp hunters and bench showers want, not what the breed has been developed for all these years. Cracks me up, a guy who hasn't owned a Leopard Cur telling someone who does own and love the dogs how I should act or feel. And whether folks like it or not there will be two registries, the American leopard Cur Breeders Accociation and the UKC American Leopard Hound. Years from now the two dogs will not hunt the same, bet on it. One will be looking pretty one the bench with little to no hunting desire, one will hunt fast and deep and have more HOUND in it the you can shake a stick at, and one will be the dogs we have now. Catching game in style irregardless of the color, or mouth, or long hair or whatever type doesn't become the rage. "The world has opened up to us!" The move wasn't IMO for the breed it was for the owners. Someone on another board stated about the registration process, "Good for the breed but not good for numbers" That statement shocked me actually and is at the core of what is wrong with this move. It was NOT done for the betterment of the Leopard Cur, it was done for the betterment of the Leopard Hound Breeders!

>The name Hound had to be in the official name. Look at
>the other coonhound breeds, their official names are:
>American Black and Tan Coonhound; Bluetick Coonhound;
>English Coonhound; Plott Hound; Redbone Coonhound;
>Treeing Walker Coonhound; and now the American Leopard

>have let it be in with the coonhounds. It is the
>coonHOUND division after all.

>People call all these dogs by abreviated names, and
>the Leopard will still be a Leopard. Now, you don't
>have to say hound or cur for people to know exactly
>what you are talking about. That won't change in 100

>do.

>So what now? You don't like the new name? The best
>thing to do is realize its done, and move on and keep

>papers say Leopard Cur or Leopard Hound when Ole Lep
