Subject: line bred from the get go!

to expand on what earlier posted; Sam's Double grandmother was mate to Ranger, my Doe Valley Queen was mate to Noah Leggetts Blondie, both out of CV Jezebel sired Treiver. Sam was double grandson ofJefferson Elrod, mate to Jezebel and Nimrod.Noah Leggett brought "Big John" back from Mo. in 72 and this was added in, which was cousin to Richard's Nugget. So all these dogs were close bred , way back T Byrd's Donna and Vernon Leggetts Rusty were both mates to Sam. Tommy Bred Donna to Tigger and I got Cricket, sire ot Tiffany. Tigger and Tiffany were close related. Trudy was intense Nimrod bred, used her as out cross as she was not related in three gen. All these dogs are "Kissin Couzins"!
Midwest dogs bred same way, Little Lep, Hammer , Shiner, all over papers.
Mike Craword said a man ask him which was best, Eastern or Midwest. Mike told him "cross them, and get dogs better than either!" That's what we did by late 80's, ten more line breeding. While a few new genes have came in, this breed is still mostly based on about two dozen dogs, that were linebred. If you have two real good dogs , half mates or closer; and alike in most traits BREED THEM!! I am not familiar with many of todays dogs but likely would see many of their ancestors in them, in their ability. Knowing the pedigree helps, buy know the dogs in the pedigree helps more.
May this breed get better and better, is my sincere hopes. Rex
