Archie,

The setting and enforcement of standards is under the authority and control of the ALCBA Registration Office,Inc. It is not done at the "World Hunt Meeting". This has been true since the office was incorporated by the first owner of the office many years ago. Whatever is voted on at the "World Hunt" has always been carefully considered by the office (I believe) and Jed and I will, of course, give consideration to anything passed at the annual meeting. The membership has always had a significant advisory capacity, but not the control or ability to change or set standards.

This will not change under the present ownership. Jed and I plan to be at the "World Hunt" this year. Jed was there last year and I had planned to be there too, but my wife's cancer necessitated my cancelling out a few days before.

The small percentage of the membership present at the annual meeting may, or may not, represent the majority opinion of the membership. Whether you are aware of it or not, there are many Leopard owners out here in the west, and in the south, far north and east who are being left out entirely. It is a 35-hour drive one-way for me. It also comes right at the opening of our bear season here. I was once told by one member that if I wanted to have any input that I should get my "lazy ass" to the hunt. That sort of attitude will do nothing to promote our unique and noteworthy breed. I believe that we must be more receptive and welcoming to people. (That man, fortunately, is no longer involved with Leopards.)

The survey that we have sent out represents the very first attempt in the history of the breed to determine how the entire membership feels. We think that is important. Printing, mailing out and providing stamped return evelopes cost a considerable sum of money. That was done entirely by this office, not the association. Jed and I are anxious to see what people think. We welcome comments, phone calls etc. If anyone has a suggestion, question or just want to talk about our favorite breed, why not call one of us?

Please fill out the survey, make any comments you want and send them back to us.
Happy trails,
Randy
