Don't know the Canadian rules, but our school is in Western Region US--have been in 2 different schools and both require 2 first places in reel, slip jig (for girls), HP, TJ, and trad set before moving into Opens. Should check with your TCRG to see what their school standards are. Frankly, just one 1st in a soft shoe & one 1st in a hard shoe will not prepare a dancer for championships, IMHO (mother of 4 dancers & 2 in championships).
