Please sign the online petition to save grounds of Tara! Visit: http://www.petitiononline.com/Temair/petition.html . People from any country can sign!

Here's what the petition says:

"To: An Taoiseach, The Irish Prime Minister
I wish to protest the planned M3 motorway through the ancient grounds of Tara. As you are aware, expert archaeologists in Ireland and internationally have pointed out that Tara is not just constituted by the actual hill, but also by the surrounding landscape, which is extraordinarily rich in archaeological monuments. This is precisely the area the planned M3 will cut through, only 1 km from the hill itself.

You are also no doubt aware that the Tara landscape is recognised as a site of not only Irish, but world importance. In particular, it holds a significant place in European cultural heritage. I therefore believe that the Irish Government has a duty to act as the respectful custodian of Tara, and all other ancient Irish archaeological sites, and to protect them for posterity and for the appreciation of present and future citizens of not just Ireland, but of all the world.

I ask you to personally intervene in this issue, and to see to it that one of the alternative routes available for the M3 motorway is chosen instead. I ask you to ensure that Tara remains completely undisturbed and that it is treated with the respect due to both a national and international cultural treasure, "

Thank you for your help!

Subject: prizewinner to preliminary

Date Posted: 13:49:31 09/22/06 Fri

what steps are there to move from PW to Prelim? Reading the rules at the northamericanfeiscommision.org reads as follows:

"14) Preliminary Championships are open to those who, at any NAFC recognized Feis:

a) The dancer must have won a 1st place in a LIGHT Dance and a 1st place in a HEAVY dance in the Prizewinner grade, and

b) Have never won 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Open Championship.

A dancer who wins two First Place awards in one calendar year will move on to Open Championship the following year, or as soon as the second win is achieved, in any age category, in the following years. Only in the case of back-to-back Feiseanna (successive days), in which case the first win in the first Feis will not change the dancer’s status for the second Feis."

so does this mean that if my daughter has won a first place in her reel and a first in harshoe that she moves to Prelim? What if not all dances are in PW - one still in Novice? Does this apply to Canada or are there different rules for us?

Any help is appreciated.

Subject: ABC TV is Looking for Irish Dancing Families

Author:
Virgil
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 10:55:36 01/18/06 Wed

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

ABC IS LOOKING FOR AN IRISH DANCING FAMILY!
If your family practices and performs Irish dancing several times a week and is passionate about it, you are the family we are looking for!
The premise of Wife Swap, which generated a lot of buzz in its inaugural season, is that one parent from each household swaps places for a week to experience how another family runs their lives. It is an incredible family experience and opportunity to both learn and teach different family values.
Wife Swap is a fascinating story of what happens when two married couples see themselves and their spouses in a whole new light. The New York Post says, "It should be called ‘Life Swap’ because it's not just the wives who learn something here. It's the families."
Potential families can live anywhere in the United States, but we ask that families who apply consist of two parents that have at least one child, ages 5 or older, living at home. To submit for the show please call 212-404-1469, or email a family photo and description to Virgil.Dorjo@rdfusa.com.
Families featured on the show will receive a $20,000 honorarium. If you recommend a great family that ends up on our show you get a finders fee of $1,000

*Family must complete taping and show must air*.

Calling All Irish Dancers: Irish Dance Costume Survey

I am a doctoral student studying Irish dance costumes and accessories. I would be very interested in getting your input, information, and opinions about Irish dance costumes that you own and that you have seen in your dancing career. All responses are sent to me for research purposes, and you can select how private or public you want the information to be. I want to hear everyone's opinions on Irish dancing costumes, so please help me out.

If you are a parent, dressmaker, or male dancer please help me by adapting the survey- I have tried to leave open options so that lots of people can participate!

http://www.diochra.com/media/feature-costumesurvey.htm

Ashe from Diochra.com has been very kind and has allowed me to host this survey on her site, which by the way is a great resource for Irish dancers, so please feel free to visit the site in addition to filling out the survey.

Thanks so much! Elizabeth Venable

Hello all - just to let you know, the new Hullachan AP shoes are available in the WEST at HULLACHAN California. www.hullachanAPCalifornia.com

The World Champions have now spoken
In the article featured on the World Champions in the Irish Dancing Magazine during June and July 2005, the World Champions were asked what their favourite light shoe was. 8 out of 11 World Champions said that they preferred Hullachan as their Light Shoe. Naturally we are over the moon in getting such a recommendation by these superb dancers. For me, as designer, it really makes all my work and research worthwhile. That kind of support can not be bought. It only happens when a product delivers the edge that dancers need.

I still dont understand championship judging what makes up the percentages of your score? Like are parts of your dancing percentages out of a 100 because I read somewhere that like your choreographing is 25% and style is 25% timing is 25% and I forget the last one- Is this all true?

Our host hotel is the elegant Peabody which adjoins the Convention Center. We’ve doubled our venue and added additional stages. The weekend starts with the Arkansas Irish Music Championships on Friday, the Feis begins on Saturday, with the Ceili on Saturday night. We don’t have a cap on entries, but rooms are limited at the Peabody, so make your plans early. An overflow hotel will be available when the rooms at the Peabody are filled. Registration available on line with E-feis. See you in April.

I am very sad to say that the solo dress that I put up for sale at Nationals was stolen. It is a beautiful Cranberry pinkish-red with aqua and silver designs, approximate child's size 12. It was last seen around 4:00 pm on Sunday. Below is the link to a picture of the dress. PLEASE, if you have any information on this dress, please email me. Hotel security is investigating, but if the dress is returned or paid for, no questions will be asked. I'm hoping it is just a dreadful mistake. Thanks for any help anyone can give. Everyone needs to enter the Celtic Soles contest! It's not hard, and there's shoes and socks up for grabs. The following was posted on the New Irish Dance Board, but for those who don't visit there...

" Celtic Soles Annual Dancer's Competition Now Open... -- Celtic Soles, 18:15:43 07/15/03 Tue
Well actually it is the FIRST competition. For a few reasons, I have been trying to get an idea of how many Irish dancers there are in Canada/USA, England/Ireland and Australia/New Zealand. I have now got a pretty reliable figure, using the resources of a senior member of the Commission, and teachers and dancers in North America, England and Ireland. My figures include both disciplines of dance - they all wear socks and shoes and that is what I have been interested in.

NOW. The rules are simple (like the rule maker), and the winner gets First Place in a Section of their choice at this year's Nationals!! No, seriously, Celtic Soles will give away a pair of Reel Comfort soft shoes, value $65.00 to the person (from anywhere on the planet) who can estimate the number of dancers in the above countries closest to the number I have arrived at.

I will give people 2 weeks to get some numbers together. You can send them via e-mail (best, cause I don't read the board every night) and I will announce the winner and the numbers in a couple of weeks.

I want your estimates on a/ the number in each of the 3 country groups and b/ the total number for the 6 countries.

Second and Third places will win 3 pairs of LAVENDAR :o) socks - nothing to be sneezed at (unless you are allergic to Lavender). And NO I won't be keeping your email addresses for longer than the 2 weeks. Once the winner has been found, the addresses will be deleted. I promise.

Please make the SUBJECT line of your email NUMBERS, and I will direct them into a specific folder.

I will give you a hint - under 500,000. I look forward to some intersting answers!! Jeff"

Go enter!

Directions to feis 12th/13th July 03
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 11:23:24 07/07/03 Mon

Sorry but due to a South Tyneside MBC ruling we are unable to erect direct signs to this weekend feis: McElvogue Trainer Festival of Irish Dancing, Brinkburn Comprehensive School, South Shields, Tyne & Wear. As such we are instead placing directions on this and assorted other message boards, please accept our apologies for this but the Council only advised this afternoon that they would not allow any signs in the borough.

From the A1 or A19 follow the signs for South Shields; these will lead you to the A194 Leam Lane and the main route into the town. Follow the A194 or signs for South Tyneside District Hospital and Accident Centre until you come to the Simonside roundabout, easy to spot the 1st roundabout with traffic lights on it. At the Simonside roundabout turn right onto the A1300 John Reid Road, again follow signs for the hospital.

Follow the A1300 John Reid Road past the 1st set of traffic lights, go over the 1st roundabout, at the 2nd roundabout (Big green Lease Direct garage on your left) turn left onto Boldon Lane, go past the garage, ambulance station etc, go across the 1st roundabout (by the pub) at the next roundabout turn right into Harton Lane (another pub!). Follow the road down ¼ of mile, over the roundabout, follow the road to the hospital.

2 options:
Option 1: Take the 1st right after the hospital and turn into McAnany Avenue, the school is on your left, follow the road to the 3rd set of gates on your left, this is a teachers car park, please feel free to park there for the feis.

Option 2: continue down Harton Lane past St. Wilfreds school on your left, on your right there is a turning for Brinkburn CA, turn into the lane leading to the CA, there are 2 car parks, again feel free to use them for the feis. If you come to yet another roundabout and another pub (The Grey Hen) you have passed your turning, go back on yourself and this time the CA entrance is on your left.

Entrance to the feis is via either the main school entrance or via the CA

Again sorry about not being able to put up signs (all printed and laminated) but we have to obey the ruling of the council.

Can a dance teacher tell a dancer they can move to the next level in all their dances at an upcoming feis even though they didn't get 1st in all in all the dances except for maybe 1 of them? I don't think it is fair to the others this dancer is competing against as they had to work hard to move up a level. Is this allowed???

I usually visit the message boards by jumping from the Message Board links at www.dance-again.com.
Could you send a note to Lisa at Dance-again to see if you can be listed there as well?
There are some good posts here but I forget to check it most of the time.
Just an idea I thought I'd share.

hi, i was wondering if any of you had advice on blisters. i never really get them, although i have been dancing for almost nine years. i just got a new pair of hardshoes to break in before nationals and i have a nasty little buggar on my heel. i need something that won't slip off with my sweaty feet, too. i know that sounds so nasty but that's the truth. any advice is appreciated. thanks.
