What holds the teeth in the mouth during those formative years?

There is something to that. Strength of teeth, or resistance to decay, is likely an inherited trait. My mother had strong teeth, and thankfully I inherited that from her. She lost them all at one time when the gum disease became too advanced. You still need to brush to prevent buildup of calculus and gingivitis. My mother hated dentists and didn't brush often or well enough.

I wish her the best! Hopefully, she won't have fear of dentists, because alas, I fear she will be seeing them far more often than she might like to. If she keeps after it, she should enjoy the use of her own teeth for a lifetime.
