Subject: lack of respect
In reply to: Marla 's message, "showing our concern" on 11:41:21 05/24/06 Wed

I agree that the board's offer shows total lack of respect for the job that our EA's do. Our family has not been affected to any great extent by the strike yet but that is only because our school has alternative resources for my son to use and because he has a really great teacher. The other son however would have been affected greatly if he hadn't already been receiving home instruction. I will gladly be present to add my voice to the cause if I can get away from the store. I think we need to make our children's needs known to the board. I am surprised daily by having to answer the question "What is an EA anyways??" or "What exactly does an EA do??". Too many people do not even know what the strike is about. We need to educate the public about how much of an essential service these people provide not just for our children with special needs but for all the children of the school in the form of extra help, fundraising, school functions, etc etc. The question is how can we best serve this cause? I haven't the time to plan anything but I can help where I can to support anyone that can do the planning. Any ideas?

Jennifer B
