Subject: boring....

You guys are boring lately. Need something to talk about? How about this. What do you think about the possibility of expanding football bleachers, moving the soccer field and having it become field turf with a new track around it, moving the baseball and softball fields and also including new bleachers and a press box. Hmmmm.

Real interesting.... Would this be in preparation for a realignment of IAA football Conference buzz that i have been hearing about. I know that this is only conjecture. Even if it is not. I think it is agreat idea. What are they looking to extend the FBall seating to? When is this planned? Is there<b>ANY</b> movment in sports arena on cmapus? JJ Is there anything I left out ? :)

Speaking of reconfiguring the fields ... there was funding I thought a few years ago for the area next to exit 29 Southbound for the track...then nothing happened...?

Right Larry, time to beat the drum again on the fieldhouse. I mean really is their any new news? Have you seen the pics from Quinnipaic? I'm willing to help you get the ball started at CCSU, but I don't own a bank :)

Inside - on the serious side, although I haven't seen an actual game, both the baseball and softball fields are new and and seem like great facilities. I though there were plans for a pavillion between the fileds with bathrooms, bleachers, etc? Why would we move them?

The soccer field is nice too, but yes, the football field needs more bleachers! I guess they could move the soccer field near the Route 9 SB exit, but keep it grass! Let me guess, your just pullling our leg.

Is there any news on conference changes or scholarship football? I think we have until July 1 to announce a change for the 07-08 season without a penalty!

I can give you guys some updates on facilties. There has been alot of talk about upgrading and building new facilites but thats all it is...talk. I, and a few others, have been beating our heads against the wall talking to CJ, Bart Fisher and local officials, and while everyone agrees CCSU needs new and upgraded facilties, there is no action at all. Our best bet is that downtown arena which will be just over a mile from campus.

CCSU just spent over $1 million on the new floor and bleachers in Kaizer. The bubble is supposed to get a new floor but that hasn't happened yet. All of this, in my opinion, was a waste of money and proves that there are no plans for a new BB facility on campus. I know Dr. Miller wants a new field house...but that is what it will be...a field house. No basketball. And frankly, CCSU does need a true field house.

There is some talk regarding bleachers on the east side of Arute. In my opinion, that "stadium" was poorly designed. It looks like a H.S. field with only one side equipped with bleachers.

As far as the pavilion goes...leave it to CCSU to construct that cookout area too close to Balf Savin to build seating around the baseball field. They have to come up with an intersting design to work around that problem.

Actually, I am sick of talking to people about our pitifull gym. If enough of us scream and yell at the idiots in the state assembly, maybe CCSU can wrest away a few bucks from the evil empire in Storrs to build an adequate arena. UCONN is our biggest problem in exanding and improving anything CCSU tries to do.

Well, are any of you "insiders" going to give a shout out to the state officials?????? Seems like you guys know a lot about what goes down in NB and could possibly get the ball rolling! Show this site of discussion to Dr. Miller...

Folks...I, and some friends of mine have met with the Mayor, Dr. Miller and the head of the N.B. Chamber of Commerce and really got nowhere regarding a basketball facility.

We (myself included) need to really shout at the general assembly. Lets face it...UCONN holds the purse strings and controls the general assembly when it comes to higher education spending. Why do you think it took so long for CCSU (one of the finest schools of education around) to finally offer a doctorate in education?

If I were a parent of a CCSU student, I would be fuming about the vastly disproportionate funding between UC and the CSU system.

We all know what we need to happen is Central upset someone in the NCAA tourney and then maybe just maybe we would be looked at as needing better faciliies.

that might just happen. it is not out of reach. albany almost beat uconn and look what George Who did.

ccsu had a chance to play uconn in hartford and look what happened...there was a chance ccsu could have pulled an upset, especially with uconn's loss of players.
oh well...we'll have to wait for the ncaa tourney.

Yup...Albany played UCONN tough...lets face it...Monmouth gave Villanova all it could handle as well!

Regarding facilities, yeah, CCSU needs a few marqui wins, but why do Southern and Western have much better facilities?

i am ALL for better facilities, because, well, they are cool - nice to have and use...and show too. BUT, sometimes facilities are not all that matter, it's what you can do inside what you have to work with that counts MOST.

Agreed...100% regarding the basketball facility. However, what CCSU desperately lacks is a true field house. One with handball courts, a REAL indoor track and facilities not just for the studen athletes, but students as well. Lets face it...the bubble is a joke (in my humble opinion). I think Dr. Miller wants to address this issue as well.

Also, keep in mind of the state / Size / shape /Capital expenditures of the other conference members athletic facilities. Hard as it may be to keep up with private schools (how about impossible) , thats where the school should be striving for..
How about the Stanley works atheltic staduim?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Re:Facilties -- Keith, 22:13:47 06/27/06 Tue

I understand there is a drive to look for private sponsorships for various facilities at CCSU. I also understand that Stanley is really not that financially stable to offer such a deal. I am thinking more along the lines of Bank North. Regardless, I think we're stuck with Kaiser for a while. I mentioned to CJ and others that even though Kaiser looks the best it has in years, it lacks proper maintenance, especially the puetrid rest rooms. The Bubble is undergoing some kind or repair inside but it's taking forever.

The football explansion seems like a "go" with a new soccer field and running track as well as real seats for Balf Savim. Any calls to your various state reps supporting all of this I am sure would help!

By the way...this site links to others as all of you know. Don't go on the UMASS site...they really DIS CCSU. They're all pissed because they "can't lose to that awfull (CCSU) team again!) And...you have to log on to reply.

About the restrooms..... There are no baby changing stations (<b>Biiiiiigggggg</b> turn off for Parents) and Are there Defibrillator stations in the gym too? Dont get too down on Umass, they are just upset because they had a great team about 12 years ago.

I don't have anything to add, I just wanted to keep adding to this thread....I think we're making CCSU message board history with the size of this one.

[> [> Lobbying effort -- J.J., 12:37:04 07/05/06 Wed

Great, this is an important issue to everyone. I think we all agree that we get the short end of the stick from the state in terms of funding. This has implications in athletics and academics. I'm willing to help in whatever way possible.

Just so you know UConn has a very strong lobby at the Capitol. That what CCSU needs. It is important that CCSU has an equally strong presence in the Legislature too. We also have tons of alumni and resources so we just need to organize them. Check out this site from UConn supporters (its not athletic, but you get the point).

<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.uconnadvocates.org/">http://www.uconnadvocates.org/</a>

We need exposure and public relations. A website would be a great start. I am not a tech guy, but have a public policy and budget background and worked briefly for the General Assembly. If anyone has any ideas or skills we can begin to put something togeather. My e-mail is jj_burr@hotmail.com if you'd like to contact me off-line.

[> [> [> Re: Lobbying effort -- Keith, 20:47:52 07/05/06 Wed

I agree...we have to do something and I have been in touch with local officials as well as DR. Miller. What I get is that there just isn't enough support out there for better funding and facilities. Bill Millerick, the head of the N.B. Chamber of Commerce wanted to know if there were "any more like me" out there who wants to see improvements to the athletic program and promote a new arena. In other words, I (and a few friends) were the only people to bring this to his attention.

One thing I need to point out is that our alumni is VERY apathetic. In fact, I know several CCSU alum who give $$ to UCONN and not CCSU because they want decent tickets at the various sporting events. Not that they can't be UCONN fans as well, but they wouldn't even think of giving to CCSU.

Members of the CCSU Alumni Assoc. have been beating their heads against the wall looking for support. Most of the alum we contact say things like..."Why should I give to Central? I paid my dues when I was a student so I owe CCSU nothing". (As they reap their $70-100,000 anual incomes) Meanwhile, they buy UCONN season tickets. This is the attitude we are up against and have to change.

You are 100% correct. I remember when I was a student and went to see a CCSU game vs. UConn some years ago at the HCC and about 10 of us CCSU students were in the top row. Just in front of us was a young couple with 2 small children all decked out in UConn gear. They said to us it was great we were all rooting for Central, because at least 1 of them was a CCSU alumn. Where was there Central gear? Why not root for the underdog?

And at a recent UConn football game at the Rent I was sitting behind 3 younger state legislators. Come to find out again at least one of them was a CCSU alumn. I joked and asked where our state funding was after they built this $94 million stadium. He smiled and didn't have an answer.

While I agree some alumni aren't as excited about giving or CCSU support, there seems to be a small group that think like us. Certainly we need to start small with a modest plan to cite the case of underfunding. And bluntly the Administration at CCSU (and the CSU system for that matter) has to make a stronger case for increased funding even if it means a small decrease in UCONN funding. The attitude can no longer bee that UConn funding is sacred and cannot be touched! The recent capital building scandals and mismangement at UConn is a perfect case for us to make that public money could be better spent at CCSU.
