- no UMass game, probably nothing at Mohegan Sun
- Top-seed rumore is correct, there will be four sites for the first round. After the first round they will reseed so the highest seed left will play the lowest seed. I don't believe it is bush league at all, it will make for better crowds.
- new signee for CCSU. Hickenbottom. Check out website.
- A move to the AE even is NU leaves is very unlikely.

- No Mohegan Sun is a little disappointing, especially since we know we can't get a higher profile team to visit New Britain, but at least we have UConn in Hartford. But a D.C. area road game would be great too! How about a game at American, Howard, George Mason, or Towson.

- I think the new kid will be a solid addition to the team. Sounds like a good student too, already has a planned major in PE. I guess Martelli is working out well up there. Nice article about the recruit in the Philly paper - http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/8845378.htm?1c

- Hate to disagree, but multiple sites is not a tourney – it’s a playoff. Reseeding limits second and third round upsets and I think it loses the luster of March Madness. This move doesn't build league identity either. IMHO the NEC has a few teams I really like playing - this conference has too many smaller, private schools. We should be in a conference with schools like Vermont and New Hampshire! Also, we know QU will jump on an invite to the AE. With their hockey program I'm sure they are begging for an invite now. I'd bet Wagner or Monmouth would jump ship given the chance too.

This is a little off the subject, but the AE doesn't have hockey. QU has tried to get in (the AE and Hockey East)for years but it's not happening for them.

As for CCSU, I don't see a move to the AE, it's not that much better of a league to begin with not to mention the money it would cost to make the move.

How much of an identity does having the tournament at Wagner help the NEC? None. Local stations do not run highlights. The games aren't even on TV until the final. Maybe one semifinal game gets on TV but no more. There is more of a chance of helping spread word about the league if each team has a chance to host some games, get some highlights on TV and allow local fans to make the trip to the game and not have to travel a couple hundred miles to watch the game. Playing in front of 600 fans in Staten Island doesn't help anyone. The NEC Tournament is not exactly a marquee event like the BE Tournament at MSG and unless the home team does well you can guarantee only a few hundred fans for each team if you have one host. Why not hold games in Detrick or at anyone's home floor when you can put 2-3,000 people in the stands?

Your right the AE doesn’t have hockey, but what I meant is I think the QU administration sees its peers as BU and NU, not SFPA and Robert Morris. While that might not be the case in reality - that is their goal. So membership in the AE is a way for them to associate with those schools to become “academic peers.” Why wouldn’t we want the same? Overall (taking more than just athletics into account), CCSU’s profile is much closer to Vermont or Stony Brook than it is to MSM or SFNY. Again, you’re right that our budget is on par with Sacred Heart, not Maine. Clearly money is the problem in and that stems from the lack of funding by the State of Conn. for the CSU system. My reasons for a conference change go beyond just looking out for MBB NCAA bids, however that discussion is way off the track here.

I’m sorry but I still can’t agree with the proposed MBB post-season reforms. Name any DI conference that will have a similar set-up next year. I know this isn’t the BE @ MSG, but not even the lowly MEAC would have a tourney like this. This needs to be an event, not a week-long playoff. The geographic center of the league is NYC area, so I can see playing there - just find a neutral court. While I don’t get to travel for many games, playing 2 games in one location provides me an incentive to show up for the tourney. What happens if CCSU’s first game is home, then at RMU, and the finals are at MSM? Do you think the CCSU fans will travel? And what does that do to the players? I agree you need more fannies in the seats, but the home court and reseeding gives too much advantage to the higher seeds, especially in the early rounds. What the Monmouth coach is trying to do is eliminate any chance for an upset. He was scared because they almost lost to Wagner in Staten Island and if the CCSU/Monmouth championship game was on a neutral court I think Central would have won and he knows that. If we can agree that the odds of any NEC team wining a NCCA tourney game is very small, then what would have been the difference if #7 CCSU makes the dance over #1 Monmouth – nothing! Chances are both teams lose in the first round.

I guess we can agree to disagree. Personally, I'd rather see 3,000 people in the stands for at least home game than seeing about 400 in the stands at Wagner. A neutral site would be a disaster, just look at attendance numbers when the tournament was in Trenton. It is not a big enough draw and the only way to put people in the seats is to have it on home courts. Unfortunately, it takes away the opportunity to watch more than one game in a day, but how many NEC fans do that? Not many.

As for the other discussion, the one thing you are forgetting is that those schools are state schools, yes, but they are also the only game in town. Maine is all alone up there. As is UVM and UNH. When you are the only game in town you get all the funding, and all the fan support and merchandise sales, etc. That isn't the case where we are. We will always play second fiddle to UConn.
