中央台說，四川成都一名商人製作掛麵時，以禁用的明礬、泡屍液福馬林改善口感和漂白。

專家警告，明礬易引發老年癡呆、記憶智力下降，福馬林則會致癌。但這些致癌掛麵已經流入各地。

報道指出，成都市主要的商品集散地五塊石商貿市場，販售的掛麵愈白愈便宜，而發黃、賣相不佳的反而貴，原因是白掛麵添加致癌藥劑。

龍潭寺附近是成都市最著名的掛麵生產地。當地一家製造商說，掛麵做得好不好關鍵在於添加明礬，增加咬勁和美觀；廠商還透露，一般食品漂白劑不僅價格太高，效果又不及福馬林，所以廠商多會加入千分之一比例的福馬林漂白。

廠商坦承，知道福馬林可能致癌，但因當地廠商都普遍使用，且為節省成本只好有樣學樣。
