Pay attention here...
It's not the style of rod, nor the tackle, nor the species of fish present. It's the individual behind the method and manner that makes it wrong or right. The DEC is not to be put to blame for all the woes of the Salmon River. Do not be so narrow-minded as to find an easy target, when you may really need to take a good look at yourselves. I sincerely doubt most anglers would behave the same way on their favorite trout streams back home, when it comes to less than ethical or sporting manners of take. Sooner than later, all the whining, arguing and raping of this once fantastic fishery, will cause any and all powers that be to turn it's back and let the program cease. Then all the problem people will go away to find another fishery to trash in the name of their own glory. So be it. When they're gone, it will be time to rebuild with those who were patient and intelligent enough to see a much bigger and brighter picture and get the river back to what it should have always been.....a true sportfishery that has an extended, balanced season and not based on the glut of making the big money haul is a 4-5 week period. A true sportfishery that will not tolerate the destruction of morals, ethics and regulations. A true sportfishery that can govern itself by peer pressure and education in proper conduct in all aspects of angling, and respect for the resource. There are many, many rivers throughout the world that have done it right, either from the start, or through lessons learned. Learn from them. If not for you, then for the next generation....your sons and daughters....and their sons and daughters....
