 Matt, I don't think the river should be fly fishing only, as a matter of fact, I think the fly zone should be discontinued. If what is going on in the fly zone is called fly fishing then we should all get rid of our fly gear and buy spinning tackle. "Chuck & Duck", running lines with tons of lead or slinkies is not fly fishing. Using 20ft leaders of 4lb and #16 nymphs is lining. And I have seen guys in the fly zone fight fish for a long time only to find them not hooked in the mouth. Lets just have the upper end of the river, from Pineville all the way to and including the upper fly zone catch and release, open to spin and fly. You'll have a better class of fishermen, and there would be enough fish for everyone to fish for.

How about a Riverkeeper for the Salmon River? Someone to patrol the river year round. Money from a trout stamp or from fines could easily pay for one.
