I'm currently plowing through Sir Ian's site for a completely different reason than you might think and came across this in a Q-n-A section (does this guy rock or what...):
"You sound more in touch with the future of the internet than I am.
Perhaps its most exciting potential is in the immediacy of communication
which will allow an individual or group to contact a wide-ranging
international audience at the touch of the keyboard. As the technology
expands and becomes cheaper, there will be soon nothing to stop anyone
who has a story to tell from posting it for the world to read and see. We
could soon all be performers and directors, a new democracy of
communication blurring the lines between amateur and professional
artistry."

the most wonderful thing for me as an internet user is not only the opportunity to search tons of information--I do lots of research on art, history, anthropology and ancient religions, but also to connect with people all over the world...I don't just haunt this chatboard, ya know!

He also mentions that he felt bad for people who asked for his autograph until he realized a good number were just going to turn around and sell it on EBay (speaking of Ebay). He's doing an online diary on the shooting of Lord of the Rings. Melissa asked me if DW was in it because someone she knows saw a promo and thought he was in it, but it might have been just Ian in a beard shot from hobbit-eye-level. I can only cross my fingers that Major Barbara gets extended long enough for these guys to cross paths in NYC so IM can drag DW into an internet cafe (are there any left?) and show him the ropes.
Meanwhile, I just got an email that some distance learning program is using one of my fairytale research pages as part of its online syllabus. I was just going to take it down too! Life is nutz.

LOL! That's quite an image: McKellen teaching Internet 101 to DW in some coffee bar.
