This is correct. He will open at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue in London on February 18th 2002 in the Icelandic playwright Olaf Olafsson's The Feast of Snails. You can find more information on http://www.roguesandvagabonds.co.uk/news.html

Wow, I'm so glad he's returning to the London stage after 30 years. If only I could afford to go there to see him.
Thanks for the link, Sarah, and welcome to the Forum.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4331580,00.html offers little more than an announcement as well. Maybe someone will interview him closer to the preview dates.

This is a cute "très" inside joke for the two individuals who like both DW and Robert Newton. N'est-ce-pas, Miz Suky?

Thanks for the link to the Guardian article, Jen. Are you planning to go?

I just checked out the British Airways "free" London offer, and with all the restrictions and requirements, it balloons into a weeklong excursion with a $100 tax bill tacked onto the end. Yeesh.

There's a bit more in the London Theatre News announcement:
"The play by the Icelandic novelist is about a successful business tycoon who is preparing for a solitary gourmet feast at home, when his plans are disrupted by the arrival of a young stranger. A battle of wits and dark revelations ensue." Good idea - more stage time. Bad idea - more dark revelations, hasn't he had enough? Well, maybe the battle of wits part will be funny.
And London Theatre Guide links to Cinephilia's "undead" site: http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/londontheatre/news/jan02/8thjan02feast.htm

They "borrowed" "my" photo of Lovejoy! Oh well, I really need to win the lottery now. That play sounds much more to my taste than "Major Barbara" was. Wouldn't it be great if I could spend a week in Europe and see my two old "puppy loves" in their respective plays?

Sigh... I can dream!

I know, it's so old and scanned looking, I can't believe it. We've got perfectly decent new things for them to steal, but oh well.

Well, now with all that anti-terrorist nonsense (yeah, right, make the old guy prove he has a metal hip, that'll protect Old Glory) and, well, the terrorist nonsense, no one wants to fly. You can't get tickets any cheaper, and you can't get better rates on credit cards.
Meanwhile, I better go check my lottery tix... ;)
