DW's will be celebrating his 60th anniversary on July 29th. If you'd like to wish him a happy birthday, you can post a message on this chatboard:

http://www.voy.com/37165/

Our friend Jen will put all the messages together on a beautiful scroll and deliver it by hand to Mr. Warner on his birthday.

You have until midnight ET, July 27th, to post your message.

I'll put it together but I don't have to hand it over myself, of course. I want to go after the Saturday matinee on the 28th because actually going on the day is cutting it too close (what if something happens?). If anyone wants to meet me there and do the honors herself please feel free - Melissa, Barbara, someone else?

Jen,

Giving him the scroll after the matinee on Sunday the 29th would be preferable since there's a very good chance he won't come out of the theatre between the Saturday matineee and evening performance. Many actors don't venture out of the theatre on Saturdays because they're required to do back to back performances. On the 29th you're sure to see him at the stage door when you or someone else can hand him the scroll. I wish we could all be there that day to wish him happy birthday; it's an easy drive for me into the city. Let me know what you would like to do, Jen.

Of course, that makes perfect sense. I can come in any time, so I'll do a "same day delivery" then. Thanks!

Jen,

So you're not seeing the play on the 29th? You're planning only to deliver the scroll? I'm thinking about presenting a bouquet of flowers to him at the stage door. Why don't we meet at the theatre (the matinee ends at 5:00) and present our gifts together? Let me know what you think.

...There is the possibility that I won't get anything but I feel pretty OK about it. Roundabout just announced their second sale (half-off this time) for 4th of July weeks tix, for instance. Opening night will happen between now and late July however, so I might not put things off until the last minute. I can't spend full price if I'm going back in August, is the main thing.

What if we wait for him before the show rather than after? Is that a bad idea? If he has somewhere to go afterwards (it being the day and everything) it might be inconvenient to give him stuff to carry while the pro autograph hounds still want something from him they can put up on EBay. Meanwhile I'll be relieved and won't spend the next 2 and 3/4 hours (!?!?!?!?) worrying about what might go wrong. What do you think?
The rate of signage has slowed; I've already updated my front page, emailed everyone in my Warner mailbox (mostly out of date addresses, though, as per usual), and posted to the Tron Egroup at Yahoo, 2 Usenet groups (Titanic and Theater related) and the Pekinpah message board on the Web. I'm now officially out of ideas, but I don't want people signing more than once, that would seem forced. I'd rather just come up short.

Jen, I think it's best that we approach him after the play rather than before. I'd hate to bother him as he arrives at the theatre when he's trying to concentrate on his performance, and who knows *when* he'd arrive at the theatre. I'm confident all will go well if we greet him at the stage door after the performance. When he comes out, we can just hang in the background until all the autograph hounds are finished and we can be the last people he meets with the birthday scroll and flowers in hand. That way he won't be juggling our gifts while signing 8x10 glossies, etc. Let me know what you think. By the way, are you planning to bring a camera?

I thought it might be one of those "break a leg" things.
>When he comes out, we can just hang in the background...
I'm not going to ask him to sign anything (I'll wait for August for that), so that should work.
>By the way, are you planning to bring
>a camera?
I have a Canon I can put a decent wide-angle lens on but it's manual and I'll have to buy a new flash unit if I can't find the old one. My mom's point and shoot has too much of a mind of its own and has a scratch on the lens now. Talk about a rock and a hard place.

Jen, are you coming to the theatre on July 29 just to give him the scroll and in August you'll see the play? Regarding the camera, I was planning on bringing one of those disposable Fuji/Kodak things since I don't own a real one. I'd love to get a picture of DW and myself with him holding the scroll and the bouquet, and I'd be glad to snap a picture of the two of you.

That way in case something happens to one or the other we have overlap. These guys make really fast film nowadays, though I still hate Fujifilm and Kodak on principle (one makes lousy color, the other fades horribly). It should still be daylight out when we're there. How is the lighting? Is it down an alleyway, or does it open right on the street? Blah, blah (off to bed...)

I think it's a great idea that we both bring cameras. I know the picture quality of Fujifilm and Kodak isn't great, but I'm too poor right now to invest in a good camera.
The stage door opens onto 43rd Street and there's plenty of light. Let's hope it doesn't rain that day.
