Date Posted: 12:06:04 09/07/04 Tue In reply to: Andrew Garvin 's message, "How does Sync Manager know one Palm from another?" on 09:40:14 09/07/04 Tue Let's start with a few questions: - What model Palm devices and Palm OS's are we talking about? - What are you syncing with: Palm Desktop, Outlook or something else? What version? - What OS is the PC running? - When you say "the Sync Manager complains", What error message are you getting exactly? - Let me see if I understand the situation. You have two devices, one with ID "X" and the other with ID "Y". First you sync each one with no problem. Then, for some reason, you changed the ID of "Y" to "X", but are unable to sync? >Apparently, the Sync Manager does not base its >identification of a handheld on the handheld's >assigned "name." I say this because if I use a >computer to sync two Palms (with different names) and >then change the name of one Palm to match the name of >another, the Sync Manager realizes and complains when >I try to sync the changed Palm. > >I need to understand this because I'm trying to >unravel a mystery that involves exactly the issue >described except that the renaming was accidental and >the pool of Palms is not two but 75! To complicate >matters, more than one computer was used to sync the >Palms. What we're trying to deduce is what name did >the renamed Palm have before it accidentally got >renamed.
