That's correct. Everything seems to be set up properly - I've tried changing all settings to anything even remotely possible, and changing them back sequentially, but nothing works. I have never seen this particular problem: I push the 'hotsync' button on the cable, the monitor recognizes it (so it *does* get to the computer), and says "Connecting with Handheld," while the Palm says something like "Connecting to computer through USB/Serial Port" but then no further steps happen. Both messages stay until time goes by, and then the screen Hotsync display seems to crash and the palm cancels after timing out.

I've tried un- and re-installing the software from the Treo CD ROM disk, and that hasn't helped. I'm really stumped.
