Perry Marshall always told the story of how he got his name. Legally, he was Sheldon Roy Lewis. He had used Roy Lewis and Roy Silver on the air.

When he went to WEEP, the PD told him the station had bought a jingle package which included DJ names. Sheldon Roy Lewis was assigned the name "Perry Marshall," which he kept for the rest of his career. At some point, he legally changed his name to Perry Marshall.
