Absolutely not. In the 1980's, KDKA was little more than a local conduit for CBS. Take away KDKA's CBS feed, and they would have been dark most of the day. Their local news coverage was adequate, but hardly outstanding and almost indistinguishable from the NBC and ABC affiliates in anything that really mattered.

The best the medium of television ever offered was live coverage of significant events, including events like the first human beings to walk on the moon.
