Steve Allen's Group W show, also known to fans as "the Westinghouse Show" was on Channel 2 at 11:30 M-F and was a hyper version of what he did on the original "Tonight Show" in the 50's. One night Steve had a young, clean-cut but still off the wall Frank Zappa on, getting music out of a bicycle. Steve also did a lot of crazy stunts, like hanging off a crane parked in front ot the studio in LA. Letterman, Robin Williams and Steve Martin have given that program a lot of credit for influencing them. As I recall it, Steve got cross-ways with Group W about something and quit. Regis did the remaining shows.

Yes, John and Yoko were co-hosts on the Douglas show for a week, including a memorable guest appearance by John's lifelong hero Chuck Berry.
