I never could understand that thinking. In the 1970s, like most Yinzers, I was bleeding Black and Gold. I would have tuned in AM, FM, or Shortwave if that's what it took to hear the Steeler games. I could never understand the idea that FM was "where the younger listeners were." Old or young, male or female, Steeler fans would tune in whatever we had to so that we could turn the sound down on the TV and listen to Fleming and Cope and later, Hillgrove and Cope.

I guess some things never change. Than and now, I don't think radio people realize that if we listeners really want to hear something, we'll turn to whatever band and station we need to tune in to in order to hear it. I put up with the terrible reception on WZUM in the late 60's to hear "Underground Explosion" because I really wanted to hear it. I would put up with the bad reception on WSTV in order to see Saturday Night Live when WIIC used to pre-empt it for Chiller Theater, unless SNL was a rerun.

There should be a sign on the wall at every radio and TV station in the country that says, "CONTENT IS KING!"
