The Rainbow Machine is yet another example of how much the radio business has changed. I can't imagine a station investing that heavily in a promotional tool these days. I remember interviewing PD Lee Fowler and he made a point to emphasize that appearances by the Rainbow Machine were not for sale. He said it might appear at the Arts Festival, but it wouldn't ever be on a car dealer's lot as part of a remote. These days, it would not only be on the used car lot, they would probably have Rob Pratte cooking and selling 50-cent hot dogs out of the back window.
