It's a little like the story Douglas Edwards, the old CBS newsman used to tell. He had been in Europe during the war and was part of the elite CBS radio news crew along with William L. Shirer.

In 1948 CBS moved him to television, where he became the first anchor of the CBS Evening News. He recalled to an interviewer decades later "I had finally made my career in radio. I had become a recognizable name. And then they came and moved me over to this toy where I was never going to be seen or heard from again. I thought, what a crummy break!"
