I was a regular KQV listener, and of course KQV was by then the go-to station for Beatles exclusives, thanks to John Rook's close ties to the band (he was a childhood friend of Eddie Cochran, which they respected). But KQV for some reason decided not to play entire cuts from Sgt. Pepper, just "mini-spins," medleys of excerpts of three cuts in a row, patterned after the "mini-spins" of hits that were a regular part of the WCFL Chicago format.

KDKA, meanwhile, played full cuts from Sgt. Pepper. It did not begin its transition from Top 40 to an MOR music format until the beginning of 1968. Whether KQV's decision had to do with KDKA getting the album first is something I never considered.
