Subject: Blue-headed vireo

This morning (July 23), I found a pair of Blue-headed vireos building a nest in Oak Openings Park, just west of Mallard Lake. As far as I know, this is only the 2nd local nest of this species, the last being found in 1986 (maybe Matt can shed more light on this). Although Blue-headed vireos are regular in summer in the Oak Openings, they have been more difficult to find in recent years, so it's good to know at least a few birds are still nesting there. In the same area was a pair of Summer tanagers with what appreared to be a juvenile. Tom Kemp
