Tonight at 5:30 Brown will be playing Texas Tech in the first round of the softball regional. Texas is the number 12 seed in the tournament, and Brown is unseeded. Texas is also hosting the regional. Does Brown have a chance? Being perfectly honest, I can't see it. In fact, I will be happy if the mercy rule in not invoked. Why so down? I have watched TT play, and they play a much more physical, in your face kind of game. I think this will be unsettling to Brown and will prove their undoing. Often in the NCAA championships, the teams who play the toughest schedules emerge. For example, in BB the Big East is usually in the finals, in wrestling the Big 10 has the most champions, etc. This is no revelation, playing a tough schedule prepares you for whatever might come in the tournament. More significantly, teams from high level conferences go into the tournament with the confidence of winners. They know that they have already faced the best. So, I will watch tonight with keen interest to see how Brown's outstanding pitcher, Alexis Guevara, does. She overpowered the IL, but how will she do against TT? We will see tonight. Here is wishing her and Brown the best.

Brown lost 6-0 which was actually better than I thought they would do. Brown could not hit TT pitching. Virtually every out was a weakly hit ball to the infield. Even the foul balls were weakly hit. Was TT pitching that good? I don't think so, but it was something the Brown hitters were not used to. TT has a really good team, but on the downside it is a bought team. They have one player, a transfer from Stanford, that cost them $1,000,000! Yep, that is right. All of which makes the game a farce. Castro was so right about professional sports. A sad commentary on an outrageous situation. How did it come to this?
