Yes, from most published accounts the animosity was possibly always there, but did not come through on screen.
Most of the anecdotes or reminiscing I have added to the website were mostly from the above said previous sources. One book which some of you should seek out as it gives full details of the turbulent background hhappenings of both "I Love Lucy" (and "My Three Sons") is called "Meet The Mertzes - The Life stories of I Love Lucy's other couple". It has been mentioned in this forum before, but for those of you who want to know more, you will find that this is a well written unauthorized biography of Vivian Vance and William Frawley. It was written by Ron Edelman and Audrey Kupferberg in 1999 and published by Renaissance Books in Los Angeles. For those really curious to read about the lives of two of situation comedy's most popular actors, the book finally sets the record straight on the lives and legacies of these compelling stars who detested one another.

I have spoken to former actor Hank Jones who told me in some of his reminisces that Frawley was a thorough professional in his work, and even at his late age, seemed to have thhe libido of a 20 year old. He also notes that later on once William Demarest was brought in, he often used to speak on the set with him about the good old days at the studios, and of his friend Spencer Tracy. He said he appeared to be somewhat hard of hearing and a grouch, but was still nice. Draw your own conclusions. Dawn Lyn also told me that he was one of the nicest members of the cast, and he appeared to be exactly as he played his role. She also pointed out that he was universally loved by cast and crew alike. Personally, I love both Frawley and Demarest in their roles. The legacy of work they have left behind will surely entertain people for many years to come. It's as if they have been granted a singular form of immortality which ensures that they (or any of our deceased favourite stars for that matter) will live forever thanks to the magic of film. And thank God for that!
