In reply to: Heidi 's message, "Re: ONE THING TO REMEMBER HERE IS THAT THE DIRECTOR DOES NOT PICK THE TOP 15 THE JUDGES DO." on 09:58:25 10/01/03 Wed

that is NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. Money does aid in getting a contestant the right gown, swimsuit, photographs and TRAINING - but it certainly does not BUY YOU THE TITLE!

Contestant go to Miss Shannon Clark for her insight, knowledge and experience with pageants. She certainly can help PREPARE you for the pageant or give you an EDGE over competitors that may have NO COACHING or TRAINING at all. AS IN ALL "COMPETITION" whether it be in pageants, sports or life, the people who EXCELL and DO WELL are the ones who seek to make themselves better through coaching, training, mentoring or continual education. If you participate in a NEW Sport or competition - but have no idea about how to play and only have BEGINNING or BASIC SKILL LEVELS - it is very difficult if almost impossible to win.

Stacey, Yelena and others who made Top 15 and even some of those who didn't make SF - went to Shannon to better themselves and become more educated about pageant competition. Remember, Stacey was 1st Runner-up last year adn Yelena was 2nd Runner-up.

Your comment about Melissa and Shannon being great friends - so what? There are alot of people who support Melissa and the pageant. Shannon is not the one who is judging, if she was then you would have a legitimate complaint! The Judges DON'T KNOW who has or hasn't trained with Shannon and it DOESN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THEM!

And why is it a SHAME that 3 of the judges were from Ohio? They DON'T KNOW ANY of the contestants in Michigan. The Judges are given guidlines as to what to look for by the Miss Universe Organization. Melissa CANNOT TELL THEM WHO TO VOTE FOR or ever will!!! I have been in the industry for a long time and I WAS SUPRISED AT SOME OF THE TOP !5 - but that's how it goes.

For you to say IT IS NOT THE GIRL, but who you know and IF they like you is absurd! YES - THEY (the JUDGES!!!) LIKED Stacey and Yelena - and both of them worked hard and both deserve their titles!

Our winners have been selected for Michigan. Lets MOVE ON from all this "QUESTIONING THE INTEGRITY" of the Miss Michigan Pageant and support Stacey and Yelena at Miss USA and the Miss Teen USA Pageant!

I have been involved with pageants and the interview has always been behind closed doors and that was 13 years ago. I have heard stories where judges want to see how a girl can handle herself under pressure and so some will try in intimidate, not because the DIRECTOR told them to, but because that is thier interviewing style. I think the director will try to explain what type of person makes a good miss usa, but wouldn't say i want a particular girl. I think the judges were just inexperienced and unfortunately did not pick my girl, but that is the way it goes sometimes. I really don't think the pageant was fixed. (NT)jan18:36:06 10/01/03 Wed
