First, as a former contestant I can tell you it is a wonderful experience for all of the girls. Kent is great and really helps all the girls feel at ease on stage. What you should know too is that Kent does have a full time job as a Vice President of a Bank, he is simply contracted by the Miss Michigan USA pageant just like the camera guy or the lighting folks. He is perfectly free to train girls in his own time, and has been doing so for years. My best suggestion is not believing everything you read as well, especially on these boards. Michigan has a top notch program and the director is very honest. The state pageant people would never tell girls to go out and get training. You don't truly need it, especially if you are a girl that has what it takes in those three areas of competition already. Some girls need the help though and will pay a lot for it. But true, I have seen the ones with mega training, (which I think sometimes can hurt more than help) and some with NO training take the crowns. I haven't always agreed with the winners, but can objectively say that the judges always do a good job and our state reps have faired very well in the national spotlight. There is always going to be gossip in this industry on who wins, so yes watch closely, whom ever wins someone will say something...It always seems that the girls that are working the hardest, researching the most and really competition seem to get the heat. Don't forget too that some of the girls competing this week will have had mega training but all kind of coaches from all over the country, (and yes you have to do that on your own), there can also be former Miss Michigan Teen USA's that have had all the luxuries of working with the state and national folks and again it is even steven when they move up to Miss, not to mention the countless preliminary winners that will have guidance provided to them by their directors. I love the program and had a great time, it seems to me that you are filled with negativity from the get go so I'm sure your notes won't be positive. But best of luck girls, and whom ever does win on Saturday, it was meant to be for them and I will support them 100%. And a final note, education is important. I have a wonderful degree in communications and still loved also doing pageantry. I did both successfully. I found my own sponsors and invested more time that money, every second helping me become who I am today and I would trade it for the world.

I read the post above and did not realize that Kent actually works for the Michigan usa progaram. this makes all the difference, is he the choreagrapher??? I think there is a conflict of interest here. he should only be able to assist contestants from other states. It will be interesting to see where he places his girls on the stage, (NT)this really makes me wonder.07:40:45 09/22/03 Mon
Kent is are very ethical person.Pahleez, It takes more for any girl to win than to walk, I agree with the above post "put your sister at ease" Gosh people think about the Miss Universe Pageant. Miss USA is totally groomed from head to toe by the people at Miss Universe, walk, pictures, talk, gown everything. It also does not matter were you are on stage. If you can dance you dance, if you can't you walk. He has coached many girls in Michigan, with no foul play. He also has seminars & many girls from TN, TX and GA go to those. Not to mention every state has photographers, gown people & coaches that are directly connected to the state pageant more than a cheographer? (NT)southern lady08:28:47 09/22/03 Mon
