Hi. A couple of my picks would be the Chapman Piloting book. I have a copy that's just a few years old and it sells for about ten bucks on Amazon. It's a great reference book. One book I read and reread over and over is "Voyaging on a Small Income" by Annie Hill. It's a wonderful boat for the aspirant and has tons of great practical advice that can even help the landlubber.

If you're looking to buy a boat maybe you might want to check out "The Seaworthy Offshore Sailboat" to give you an idea for design considerations. Also "20 Small Sailboats to take you anywhere" for specific boat recomendations.

Just an all around great sailing narrative is the "Hal Roth Seafaring Trilogy". Probably my favorite non-reference sailing book.

For repair/restoration, you might want to look at Don Casey's "This Old Boat" may be helpful.

The Hiscock books are pretty popular as well, here's a combined edition of two of their books for cheap on Amazon. (hope this helps!)
