Subject: Radar

Another question about my new boat...

It comes with this obnoxious rack mounted right above the cockpit (like an upside down U) with a radar dome on top. It seems really unnecessary to me and looks like shit. Needless to say it's one of the first things to come off the boat once I get it home. It's hooked up to this monitor that has integrated gps/radar/fishfinder/chartplotting functions.

What I was thinking about was to just scrap the whole radar/gps/chartplotter/fishfinder thing and then my only electronics will be depth/knot meter and a hand held GPS.

Would any of you keep the radar? If so why? I do have it in mind to make longer voyages (perhaps single handedly) in my boat in a few years down the road but is it really necessary have that sort of equipment?
