The way I've always looked at it is that it's very very simple if the whole system is isolated from the rest of the boat. This is another reason why not having an engine makes things easier. If you've got that engine, of course you will have the alternator, and the whole thing will be bonded, zinced, and grounded. Once you tie an AC system into all that via a charger, the implications of where electrons go become all but incomprehensible. A lot of people get away with their shore power system being nothing but a cord with a powerstrip on the end, and I suggest all in all that may well be best.
